Isolation Transformer?

Was going through our new to us boat and behind the cabinets in the salon I found that this boat has a 12KW isolation transformer. Never had one before. A little bit of googling and it seems that having that is an excellent way to stop galvanic corrosion.

My question is, is it really worth having? Does it really cut down on corrosion issues and make my zincs last longer?
 
Yandina has / had a great write up on them. When installed correctly, the next best thing to an isolation transformer is to have your boat in rack storage or on a trailer.
 
Yes, it's a Charles. I checked the prices and these things aren't exactly cheap.
