So I put my boat in last weekend with the intention of bringing it to MRD Motor Sports for warranty work last week but that got pushed off until this Tuesday and as luck would have it someone decided that they really liked the display unit of my Furuno 1623. And here's the kicker...it looks to me that they were in such a rush not only did they just smash the mounting bracket but they snapped off the cables in the back which take about 2 seconds to spin off.

Can anybody suggest a good boat alarm?

Yeah...take the electronics with you when done. I'm pretty sure most of them have quick release mechanisms.

That sucks ........

I have had work done (not alarm) by Sea-Curity in Lindenhurst, not a bad guy, work is pretty good. Alarms are real simple, hardest part is running the wires. If you think you can do it yourself, I will help you with some ideas on what to do and how to do it. If you do not get the answers you want here, try the same post on ATC (ask the captain). Do a google for boat alarms, parts for this are available on the internet. Again. if you need some help or ideas, email me your # and I will call you. For a couple hundred bucks (material) you could have a good alarm system.

Mike,
I hear you on what you are saying, but it really stinks to have to constantly remove stuff from your boat and remember to bring it back everytime you use the boat.

It happened at my dock which is my own piece of property in Wantagh. The neighbors are really good at looking out for me so it must have happened late last night.

I know I should/could take my radar display with me (it's the only piece of electronics I could do that with since the rest were factory installed), and I will moving forward, but now that some schmuck has it in his/her head he can walk onto my boat and take what is ever in the cockpit with a simple slide of a zipper how long will it take for he/she to get greedy and pop the lock in the cabin and go for the rest.

I have a camera mounted and it used to be connect to a DVR but my neighbor down there removed it when his boat sank [:-censored] and I didn't think to replace it since I've never had a lick of trouble down there. That's the first thing that gets done. Second is I need a loud alarm/siren that goes off when NECESSARY. My neigbors have all said they'll run out when they hear it but I don't want to bother them. Third is to source the Furuno display.

Lots of research to do but these guys: http://www.boatalarm.com/index.html look interesting.

Walter, thanks for the offer. If you have any ideas on which parts are best please let me know.

Jeff

Just wait until they start stealing gasoline and diesel out of boats!

Look on ebay. Last time this happened I caught the guy on ebay selling the exact unit. We turned him over to cops but because he didn't have the units or some other silly reason they never booked him. If you find it on ebay, email guy and ask if you can pick it up to avoid shipping charges then show up with a baseball bat.

Yeah, I've been checking craigslist and ebay every hour since it happened.

Sorry to hear about this, it must be a horrible feeling to have your boat ripped off right behind your home. Camera, DVR, lights, etc are all a good thing as are fences and gates.

Man thats sucks.....

To touch base on the DVR front . My marina had someone on camera perfectly that had done something. If u dont recognize the person the Video is useless...

Boy that got flagged quickly. Anyway, mine was a 1623. Now I wonder if there are other head units compatible with my dome.

but I'll bet sometime it's a neighbor's kid and other times the authorities know the person already...and these days you could create a myspace page for that person and make them real famous...real fast!

You guys arent going to believe this...It's back!!!!! Apparently, someone found it on the street and turned it in. Other that the initial damage where they snapped off the cables (easily repaired says Furuno) it doesn't any worse for wear. Hopefully they didn't use it as a soccer ball and mess up the internals.

I am amazed....

Jeff

Must of been some dumb kids, probably thought it was a TV or an Ipod, hope all works out.

Walter

More likely it was a kid carrying it and got spooked when someone came driving by.

Title this: Kudos to Furuno

I just received back the 'stolen' radar display and it was 100% repaired by them at no cost to me. This included repairing some internal damage, replacing the connectors and supply a new mounting bracking and mount knobs.

Not too shabby. I believe they've just won customer for life.
