My Jabsco manual toilet refuses to stay primed. I may be able to get a few uses out of the toilet and for whatever reason, it will lose its prime. I then pull the hose off to the bowl and put my finger over the outlet (connects hand pump to bowl) for the hose and carefully regain prime.

I have played with using/not using the switch for dry pumps and regular pumps. Doesn't seem to matter. If I run the bowl dry, it will for sure lose prime. However, as mentioned, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Why?
 
How old is it, and when was the last time a rebuild kit was put into it? The Jabsco manual toilets are the bottom-of-the-line units that the boat builders install as original equipment because they can't find anything that's cheaper. But they don't hold up very well. If it's more than about 2 years old, it's time to put a rebuild kit in it.
 
That would make sense. The toilet was already on the boat but I can tell you the boat is much older than the toilet. I have not done a rebuild kit on it. I have replaced a joker valve, but that's it. Is it worth the money for the rebuiled kit or should I apply the money to a 'similar' toilet that isn't so prone to breakdowns. It hasn't been a reliable piece of equipment. Thanks
 
Oddly enough, that's the toilet in my aft head and it has never given me any trouble in the 6 years we have had it. Wish that were true of the Jabsco. Thanks for the info!
 
Vic, since we're on the subject, will the Marine Elegance head fit the same space as the cheap Jabsco? Is it close?
 
Ron, it should fit in the same overall space, as long as you have enough depth.

If your manual toilet is mounted up on a step, you'd want the short model "Elegance" (part # prefix "22"). If the toilet will mount on a flat deck, you'd want the taller model "Elegance" (part # prefix "23").
 
+2 on the Marine Elegance. IMO it's the best marine head on the market. I replaced a Jabsco manual/electric with it. Ron, it basically fit in the same space.

Thanks, it is mounted on a step. I had a chance to buy one that had been installed on a boat that was about to be repossessed, but I wasn't sure it would fit and sadly, didn't take the trouble to go get it and try it.
 
D'oh! The one that got away.

They're actually not that expensive.
