We are leaving the Chesapeake Sunday for an extended cruise up north and hope to spend Sunday night in Cape May. Just yesterday my generator stopped putting out 110 volts even though it starts and runs perfectly. My marina mechanic took a quick look and confirmed it has an issue but was too backed up to get into it. With a little research I turned up Morrisons in Beach Haven as a possible enroute repair facility. Looking for any Onan service suggestions. If I do head there is Little Egg Inlet advisable in 38' Holland with 4' draft? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Little Egg can be a dangerous inlet. There are 2 cuts into it. If you go to Beach Haven make sure Morrison's has time to do your repairs. Jersey marinas are very busy and backed up this time of the year. I'd suggest checking out the Cape May marinas for the repair. If you decide on Little Egg coming up from the south make sure you enter on a rising tide. Check with SeaTow or Towboat US for local info, make sure you don't go too far North you could hit a shoal that extends out almost 3 miles to the LEI bell. Little Egg is very skinny in that area I would suggest reading the notes on Active Captain.

I think I'll call Engines Inc Monday morning and see if there is any hope for some attention this week. Little Egg is not in my future. Thanks for the tips.

I used Engines Inc. to do my engine surveys last fall. They are a competent group, I would use them again.

They met me in AC on Monday afternoon and got me going the same day. Vary thorough troubleshooting led to a "hung up" relay in the voltage regulator. A few taps in the right spot and it seems OK for now. New regulator on the way. .
