The motors are fantastic. The boat runs perfectly with absolutely no issues. Buying brand new motors was a good move, but having the right guy install and set them up made all the difference in the world. It was well worth the money and I'm glad I didn't tackle it myself like I was planning.
The addition of the counter rotating drive was long overdue. There is a reason they put them on boats made later. The boat tracks and turns better at cruising speed up on plane.
I haven't really done much backing up with it because I tie up alongside my bulkhead at my slip. But, after the airshow last week I wanted to pump out so I purposely took a ride to Wantagh Park to use the pump out there because it is in a "back-in" slip. I was amazed at how much more control I had when backing in. It actually went where I pointed it and I didn't have to compensate anymore for the hard pulling to the port side in reverse and the big bow swings that it caused.
It still doesn't handle nearly as well backing up as a twin inboard (and never will) because the pivot point will always be back by the swim platform, but it is much better than it was before.
Overall, I am very happy with the boat and glad I didn't sell it and move on to something else.
Had I bought another used boat I would have still been possibly facing a re-power at some point. As much as I would have liked to go bigger, it would have been a waste for me since my wife isn't a real boat lover and we probably wouldn't use it any more than we use this boat.
