With all the concern over stormy waters in the Delta and the ever-present threat of the peripheral canal I thought it might be fun to mention this:
I've always thought that it might make sense to name a boat after a brand of beer. That way, the captain could pretend to have her/his private label brew on board, ice cold and ready for guests. I've just found the perfect ale for some of the folks I often see boating on the Delta. These people have their own ideas about speed, what constitutes a wake, how much noise is too much noise, what's cool to toss in the water, etc. The beer? "Arrogant Bastart Ale". Really, our local retailer put the box out front for the neighbors who ask for boxes, and I grabbed it. Some of what's printed on the outside: "It's not too expensive, you're too cheap", also, the typical "Questions or Comments" header is followed by "If you don't like this beer, keep it to yourself -- we don't want to hear from any sniveling yellow-beer-drinking wimps 'cause this beer wasn't made for you". I'm not much of a drinker, but I'm thinking of keeping a case on board just so I can toss a cold one at the occassional passing boat worthy of the name. We could hale them with the following international call: "Hey, you arrogant bastard!"
