Hello... I am hoping to be able to get some assistance from this forum. My friend and I just purchased a 1980 Carver 33' Mariner. The boat is being hauled from the marina to my shop on Saturday. It has not run for at least 3 years but seems to be in excellent condition.
My questions are:

Where can I find manuals for wiring?
Is there a place for a generator? On the fuse panel there is an open hole for a generator switch.

Thank you for your help!

You can go to www.carveryachts.com & find your local Carver dealer (the only place Carver will sell it from), have your Hull ID ready & contact them. They'll sell you a manual if they have it. I was able to get one for a '78 Voyager. About the generator, see if there is a hatch in the floor of the lounge. Mine (again, a Voyager, but similar) is under there.

GOOD LUCK!

Joe, the generator on the 3396 was located underneath the cockpit sole in between the engines. A tight fit, to say the least. On the 3326 like Stirling's boat, it was located under the raised salon. That was not possible with the single level floorplan on the Mariner...

A 6.5kW genny was an option on the Mariner, though. Check out sites like boats.com and see pics of similar models, some with generators, to get a idea of how it was set up...

I'm pleased that Stirling was able to get a manual for an old boat. I was lucky that my 1980 2896 came with one when I bought it last year. One thing to point out is that he lives in Missouri where people are still nice. We live in NY and the Carver dealers in the Tri State area might be less inclined to be friendly to people with the old dogs we own. That company has definitely passed us on. But still its worth a shot because you might find someone who's nice and will help you...

Years ago when my dad had his old 28, you could call Pulaski WI directly and speak to someone usually named Bibb or Jim Bob or whoever and they'd bend over backwards to help you. Sadly that is no more with Carver now being part of the Genmar empire...

We owned a 1978 33' mariner for 18 years and some friends of ours now own it. There is a 6.5 Onan between the port engine the gunwale and it's still running well. The boat is only two slips away from our boat (38' Carver aft cabin) so we see it often. Great boat. Before the 33' we owned a 28' Mariner. Obviously we are Carver people.
