Hey Everyone,

The wife, a couple friends and I are going to be staying at Boyd's Campground in February and we will be trailering our boat down to enjoy some great Keys cruising...

With that being said, I am doing some prelim research and what better place to ask but the S.FLA board.....

If we want to cruise over to Key West...are there places (slips) we can tie up for the day...a few hours, etc so that we can enjoy Mallory Square, etc... also any other hot spots/must sees that we should put on the list to do....

We are really looking forward to the trip although it is a few months off!

Thanks in advance!!

have not been there yet but will try later this winter. I am currently planning a cruise north on the Gulf ICW and have found this sites heapful.
www.marinas.com
www.floridamarineguide.net
www.dep.state.fl.us then in your case go to the southeast region. Grab one of the park phone#s down there and call to ask them for more info

Good Luck
PAT

TampaSean, I do not think you would enjoy the cruise from the seven mile bridge to Key West in a 22 foot boat.

The seas really kick up in Hawks Channel, and it is a loooong way.

i have to agree with hyperfishing. it can get real nasty real fast and there is really no protection. if it were me (i did it 3 years ago) i would drive the car down to key west.

Where is Hawks channel? Is that the channel running on the east side of all the keys?

Yes...from Marathon it's the best way to get to Key West. Staying on the inside is nice, but there are a few tricky areas that you really have to be careful about skinny water.

I second the comments on running a 22 from Marathon. You'll certainly see plenty of boats doing it, but if you're cruising with friends, you may find it turn very uncomfortable for them fairly quickly, and dangerous, to boot.

I thought Boyds campground was in Key West??

Yep Boyd's is on Stock Island but the address is technically Key West so I wouldnt think it would be too long of a ride around the island...

With that said...anyone know if any places in the Bite offer day docking??

Thanks for keeping the thread running!

i suggest calling the galleon marina directly and ask them. they are the largest marina in the harbor and even if they don't offer what you seek, they will probably know who does.
