After being stranded recently in my 24ft deck boat with the family and wating several hrs to wave someone for a tow, I was thinking of putting a kicker motor on the boat. I have a john boat that has a 1988 40hp evenrude, I rarely use the john boat and have been thinking of selling it anyway. Would a 40hp motor be enough power to get me back to dock if I was 10-15 miles off shore? The boat weighs about 7000lbs loaded. The boat currently has an I/O set up and the boat builder offers a kicker mounting bracket as an option so I know there is room of it.
