For several weeks my marina has been trying to diagnose a problem with my 2006 260DA. Between 2k and 3k RPM the engine has what appears to be some sort of mis-firing, resulting in loss of power. At 3.5k to 4K RPM it runs out ok with a fluctuation in RPM of about 120 RPMs up or down. (WOT 4900 RPMs) ECM is not sending any codes.

They thought it might have been a coil issue, spark-plug gap issue, ignition wire issue but nothing changed. After speaking with Mercrusier Tech support my service manager said they said they were aware of an issue with fuel pumps that were defective due to "metal filings" that were restricting flow?. This they said occurred during mfg. Because of this issue...the pump is on back order and will most likely be in next week....?

Has anyone heard of this before or having the same issues...

Haven't heard of this...no. There is no TSB issued regarding it.

Anthony... these are older posts (1994), but could help you in troubleshooting this.

sorry......... no posts about other message boards....... rules are rules.

Anthony, would you call this a "miss" or a "surge"? To me, Miss has sharp square edges and Surge is more of an up and down roll. Do you feel it or only see it in the tach?
I'd suggest posting this in Engines/Electrical. Not long ago Newport Dave posted a remark that a MerC manual suggested changing the plugs in any 5.7L engine that had a "surge".

Thanks Guys,

I was told by the service manager that it was a "miss" however it does "surge" at the higher RPMs. I'm hoping it turns out to be the fuel pump after all... we'll see. Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar problem.........Thanks!

My mis-firing was cause by the moisture in the distributor cap. I replace the rotor and cap and everything now works. Approx $50
