Kohler 8EOZ diesel generator, need an alternator

The alternator on my genset is fried and unfortunately I threw it away when a replacement arrived. The replacement was wrong and rebuilding the old one is no longer an option.
The Kohler part # is 256934, an upgrade from 256924. Kohler wants $335.00, I'm trying to get one at a reasonable price.
Any ideas for a source?

cant you return the replacement for the correct one/???
 
How big are this genset and its alternator? Can you get creative and install a marinized Delco? They have a single-wire version that has internal regulation and no extra wiring but to charge your batteries. It'd take bracket changes...

Suggest look up Hutcherson Auto Electric in Tampa, Palm River Road at 50th street, SW corner. They do a lot of truck, industrial and marine work.
 
Check with the local Yanmar dealer or distributor.

The Kohler 8EOZ uses a 3 cylinder Yanmar. I forget the model number of the engine but I can look it up if you need it.
