Lake Lanier drought pictures

Ahhh, the old "looking at the data statement". Remember when the Challenger blew up and the NASA commentator said, "Controllers are looking at the data?" I screamed at the TV set..."Look out the damn window"

I remember saying that too! I think the commentary continued something like ...obviously a major malfunction with the vehicle...
No kidding.

Glad to see you gusy will have some places to go this summer. The repair shops will all be depressed, not nearly so much lower unit work this year.

Greg

Either way I"ll take 1061.18!!! And more forecast for tomorrow and the end of the week...

Ted,
I believe you mean 1061.22! You are behind the times.... :)

Just came back from the Lanier. Had a great time and the lake is gorgeous!

It is just amazing how much the lake has come up lately. We're up to 1062.10 right now with it still going up every hour of every day.

Lanierians, if you saw the news last night about the docks up BRC- we went for a cruise this afternoon and saw the devistation from the storms. WOW! Docks tossed ALL over the place, one boat half sunk, a few grounded, lots of trees down...crazy. Go around the finger to the next cove though and nothing!

Go back to page 4 to see my other pictures of our dock. Here is one from the parking lot today. Note all the slips are now in the water and very much so! Also, if you go back to page #1 aand look at the first pics...the dry ground with all the concrete blocks exposed between the docks is just to the left of our dock in this pic- all 100% underwater. Here's to a full lake (or nearly so) this summer!!!

Oh yeah...that Carver 36 you see in the first slip to shore on the right...just got her sold today! BTW, a certain RO needs to change their ownership profile!! People are doing deals and shopping- spring is here. :)

So quit b!tchen and to boating.
I guess now you can feel the stumps instead of seeing them?????

We're looking better but still we're just now passing our normal winter lows. At least our depth is good enough now for me to use the Lanier Harbor ramp where I live. Maybe I'll even be able to go under the bridge to the Islands for a month or two this summer. All of which is pretty pathetic, especially if you own a shallow water dock and are still a few feet from seeing water, but it's still much better!

Be careful what you wish for

http://www.boatered.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=105121

We haven't seen normal or beaches (what Eufaula is knowm for) for two years, and high water has been just as damaging to lake dependant business’s as droughts. During the peak of the drought, cities were head to head with the corps as water intakes came out of the water.

We bought this boat during the drought we thought would never end...hence the name "In Heat", and it’s been raining ever sense, or the Mississippi is high, and water is not released. Time for a name change maybe...

Stan

Heavy rain tommorow. I think we may make 1065 as I predicted. Would'nt that be cool!

The front just passed thru here. Lots of winds, rain and hail.

Tony,
"We're up to 1062.10 right now "

What does that number mean?

PS
The lake is looking good; I have a smile on my face for you that boat there. In my opinion, nothing worse for a boater to see then a boating paradise go down the drain (no pun intended). Your earlier pictures were very disturbing.

What does that # mean? Basically, lake elevation in feet above sea level. Summer pool/"full pool" is 1070-1071, depending on which chart you reference but most folks consider full pool to be 1071. Right now we're up further tonight to 1062.25. That still puts us 8.75' below full pool. But, this is coming up from the low of 1050.79 that occurred December 26, 2007. Additionally, the highest Lanier got ALL of last year in 2008 occurred in May when we reached 1057.80 (May 18, 2008). So, right now we are 11.46' above our low point in winter 2007 (which was the lowest ever recorded since the lake was filled in the 1950's) and 4.45' higher than our highest point all of last year. This also means that, as Greg optimistically predicts, we may get up all the way up to 1065 this spring and IF we get some late summer hurricane rains we may actually get near full.
All of this also means that perhaps, just perhaps, we may be coming out of the woods with this issue and I will no longer have to monitor water levels every day with hopes that enough water will remain to allow boating 24/7.
Despite the historic lows we still got to spend 100 nights on the boat last year (most of those anchored out)so we were not personally impacted tremendously. But, it also means the land values around the lake and marine businesses will hopefully fair MUCH better this year b/c the last 2 years the lake has been a mud pit, albiet a very nice mud pit! :)

And are we ever going to get a Lanier forum here on BE? SO many folks are here from Lanier and surrounding lakes..... Les????

:)

Also, Walter, the last time Lanier was as low as 1050.79 above sea level was February 6, 1958!

Sorry to derail this thread, but I'm in the Buford area for a couple days this week. Are there any good parks on the south end of the lake that are worth visiting?

This thread needs to be moved to the Pacific Coast area.

rdulton, I agree with you on that.

MEfirst, you may get a better response to your request if you ask it directly in the Lake Lanier forum. There was a snafoo with the forums when they were put together though so it's miscatagorized as the "Pacific Coast" forum. Nice folks over there though that should be able to help you. :)

P.S. If you're near Buford I would recommend checking out Lake Lanier Islands- great park and lots to do.

We had between 4.5 and 9 inches of rain in SW La. in the past 48 hours.
You might be able to fill your tub in the next couple of days.

Looks like Lake Lanier is going to go over 1065 shortly. Does anyone have any current marina pictures. Looks to be a fine summer there for boaters.
