All packed and prepped and ready for a 2 week venture in northern Lake Michigan. Ludington to Mackinac Island and many ports in between. Outside of Lake Huron's North Channel, some of my favorite Great Lakes ports with excellent facilities.

Sounds great, have a wonderful and safe trip.

I'm always amazed that out of the 100 or more boats in our marina, probably no more than a dozen ever get out of sight of the harbor. Seems like such a waste. Nothing more than a floating condo. Those folks are missing out on the real benefits of boat ownership.

Pulled into the new Straits State Harbor in Mackinaw City last night. It's really a nice facility. Not as convenient as the municipal to the sights of downtown, but on the other hand, very quiet and restfull. 100+ slips available and only a dozen boats here. Staff appears to be very helpful and attentive.

My wife and I stayed there a week ago and we were one of four boats docked for the night. A very nice facility and good staff. Some day the word will get out and you'll have to have a reservation. Another nice facility is Duncan Bay Boat Club located just east of the Cheboygan River. No shopping close by but very relaxing. I keep my boat in slip 124. Stop by and say Hi.

I'm not headed your direction, but thanks for the invite. Am on Mackinac Island for a few days now. It seems there is a real lack of boats this year. I know it's early in the season, but I've never been to the island and seen so many empty slips. Along the shore docks, they put one boat to a dock and there's always an empty dock or two.

Spent the weekend in Clinch Marina in Traverse City, Michigan. No lack of boats here, of course the National Cherry Festival is the reason. The marina is overtaxed and stuffed to the gills but harbormaster Barry Smith and his staff have done a remarkable job keeping up with the demand. A port many Lake Michigan boaters likely pass up due to the distance into Grand Traverse Bay. It's worth the trip and if you can be here for Cherry Festival, dawn to dusk entertainment...mostly at no charge.

Busy Grand Traverse Bay

Moved over to Elk Rapids in the East Bay of Grand Traverse Bay. One of my favorite stops. Slip #58 is right next to the park and convenient to downtown, although it's a bit of a hike to the facilities. Marina staff keeps this place squeaky clean. Fished out of the dinghy last evening just outside the harbor and landed two lake trout in an hour or so of trolling.

Finished the two week cruise with a night in Leland. Leaving Leland, noticed a gurgling blob of what looked and smelled like raw sewage bubbling up to the lake surface about 50 yards south of the harbor entrance. Anyone have info on what's going on there? The was no rain for days so doubt it was any kind of storm overflow.
