Greetings everyone,
With the season ramping up into full swing, we thought we would start a thread for boaters in our area. A place where folks from Michigan City, Ind. to SouthPort, Wisc. can chime in with whats going on in their areas; fun things to do and see, harbor conditions or just to stay in touch with friends.
This will be our first full season at NorthPoint Harbor and we would appreciate hearing from others who reside their also.
In turn, we had spent the previous 3yrs boating out of Calumet Harbor / Cal-Sag Channel and know quite a bit about that area. Anyone have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
How-ever this goes, mostly we wanted to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable boating season!

Willie,

I am up at North Point as well. It's a nice place. I am sure you will enjoy it.

And I'm WAY down here in Michigan City. Not in yet, but hope to soon. Not sure I'll be makin' too many trips this year with the price of gas, but I didn't buy a boat to save gas either! :)

Maybe just one Chicago jaunt, and maybe one to South Haven &/or Saugatuck.

Hope this weather starts to turn warm soon----Brrrrrrr!

We are Golfman25!
Although we knew we would after transient stays the last few years. We got into our slip in "M" dock mid April. Great group of boaters there,we are looking forward to a great season.

Agreed about the weather,
And you are supposed to be on the warm side!
Looks like we may have a decent day today up north, but a lousy Sunday.
We have scaled back our non-essential expenditures to obtain more diesel dollars.Hopefully it's enough to still do the trips we have planned.
Otherwise, coal is stll cheap. Might have to make some engine modifications in the off-season if fuel prices continue to rise.....

well i am glad someone started a thread for this area. I am at Southport in Kenosha. I took delivery of my boat in January in Florida. Enjoyed the boat most of the winter and then had a delivery crew bring her north. I have been boating out of Kenosha for a while.

I was at the marina yesterday getting things set up in the slip. weather was decent could have been warmer. I take my zodiac tender to Northpoint for cocktails or lunch at tropics. Boat all over the lake and have several trips already planned.

look forward to the exchanges.

Hey Neighbor!
Like you, this is our first season with our "new to us" boat that we had bought in Kentucy, then had shipped here in late March.
We are hoping this thread catches on also. Nice to have something for our area, especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
We have one problem with Tropics; staying out of their! I think we kept them open in the off-season with our frequent visits.
We have a few trips planned also. June we usually head south; maybe do a long weekend in Michigan City and one in St.Joe / Benton Harbor. July as the water warm we want to plan at least one trip north. August hopefully will be our "on-the-hook" month. We like to keep family and friends happy with long beach days and starry nights in calm coves.
FYI: next weekend at NorthPoint is the vendors fair and sidewalk sale. Let us know if you can stop by!

What is the vender's fair? West Marine goes outdoors or--?

Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club sponsors and invites marine related vendors in the area to come for a day and show their stuff. It was slated for earlier this year but got re-scheduled due to bad weather. NorthPoint decided to have their sidewalk sale on the same day.The websites for both have more info. This will be our first year so we cannot comment on what to expect.
Gonna stop by Bliss?

I'll be helping moving a boat to Reefpoint so I'll be around in the AM sometime.

Wild Ride!
Too nice yesterday afternoon so we had to play "hooky" for a few hours and go for a boat ride. Although The Lake was rough, 5-7fters, it was great to be back on the water for a few hours!Fought those southeast winds back into our slip just in time to watch a pretty impressive lightning show in the southern skies.

Well, The Vendor Fair and Boat Yard Sale was no big shakes. Nice day on Saturday though a bit windy. Today was just too darned cold!
But no complaints - Any weekend on our boat is a good one.

Look's like it could be a nice boating for this memorial Weekend! Who's got plans? Anyone taking a cruise?

North Point has filled up quickly since last weekend. Hope everybody got their boats in!
We may take a jaunt south this weekend weather permitting. See you on The Lake?

Wet Willie, we were up at North Point on J dock for three seasons (just down from Golfman 25 - who you should make a point to meet - Dave is a good guy). It is a beautiful facility with generally great people. I hope you enjoy your new boat, and the new to you marina. It is a good place. Have a great season!!!

Kimberly,
How's "The Ditch" looking this year? When we visited that new development, Marina Shores, last season, it was pretty shallow through their.

Well, first we decided to try to trailer because we weren't getting up there enough, it was about 1:15 from our home (2006), then we had a brand new baby in April (2007) wiping out the second season and this year I just lost my job . . . so not only no slip, but no boating for us this year. We had cash saved to take us well into 2009 before we had to touch investments or other treasured assets, but the wife is totally against getting the boat ready and out this year with gas prices etc. Oh well. I could fight her on it, but we have enough other stress right now with other family stuff (my dad has cancer, some stuff on her side etc.) Easier to let it go for the year.

We do, however, have friends whose boats are floating . . . Luckily, our boat is paid for and it is not a great time to try to sell, so at least the boat is safe for a while.

THEY HAVE DREDGED IT, SO FAR SO GOOD. WHEN WE FIRST HEAD OUT OF THE MARINA OUR DEPTH FINDER ALARM IS GOING OFF, BUT AFTER THAT WE ARE FINE. IN SOME PARTS OF THE DITCH HEADING TO THE LAKE WE ARE READING 5 FOOT.
