I have been trying to plan a vacation for the whole summer, the plans have finally been made. Fri the 7th and sat the 8th Port Washington, Sun and Mon Montauk yacht club, tues and maybe Wed block Island then wed or Thur stop somewhere about half way home (Stamford or Norwalk to be decided). If anyone will be in any of these locations please let me know, it would be nice to meet some of you or if anyone would like to make the cruise with us I would love the company.
Hopefully we will have better weather then we've been having lately. I feel like the season is blowing by, I would like to take a week off to enjoy it.

That sounds like a long run from Port Washington all the way to Montauk without a stop (not that I've ever done it). How long do you think it's going to take?
Hope the weather cooperates for a change and have a safe and enjoyable trip.

I have to double check the chart but it's not that far I've gone to Montauk in a day it's a long trip but after the trip up from NC last week it will seem like a short ride. I'll look it up and let you know. How was your trip last week?

OK I have to agree it's a bit of a ride. It comes in at about 95 miles at 23 mph it's a good 4 hours if the weather is good, but it's in the name of fun. It's a good thing Diesel is down.

We've done Montauk to Port Jeff at 15-17k. Also Montauk to Huntington. Great weather tho.

Port Washington had the most expensive fuel of any stop on our way out to, and back from, Block Island.

I'll kept that in mind can you suggest a place to stop that won't kill to much time on the longest leg of the trip? Do you recall what the charged for diesel?

Port Jeff wasn't too bad, but it's a long ride into the harbor and back out. If you can make it to Montauk, I think they are fairly reasonable. I don't remember what diesel was, but I know it was high

I guess I'll play it by ear but I should make it to Montauk. I'll pay the price if I have to, like they say "it's a boat" some times we do what we have to it enjoy to time that we have. Besides it's a vacation.

try mount sinai harbor just past port jeff. you can call for a price. easy in and out.

Port Washington gas was $3.80 when we were there a week or so ago. Maybe you can guesstimate diesel from that. Surprisingly, Milford, CT gas was only $3.19, same as Haverstraw. I thought Conn. gas would be higher for some reason.

Dave,
You can make it from Stony Point to Montauk on a full tank if you fill up at Stony Point.

I went from Pilots Point Marina in Westbrook all the way home and use less than half a tank and traveled 130 miles.

I also traveled from Monmouth/Red Bank/Channel Club up to the north shore of Long Island and out to Montauk in one day, and burned half a tank of fuel and traveled 135-140 miles.
Fill up when you get to Montauk at Gone fishing marina. It is located directly across from Montauk Yach Club. Diesel was $2.89 when we we there on the 6th of July.

Well today is my last day of work before I start my trip. I've been waiting so long it's hard to believe it's here. Looks like a least the start of my trip the weather looks great. Although I titled this thread last minute plans the date for the trip was planned in Spring but the locations of the stops still are not written in stone.

I still haven't picked a stop for my return trip from Block I don't want to try that trip in one day. Any recommendations welcome. I'm considering Port Jeff, Stamford, Norwalk (but we where just there). Any other thoughts?

Brewers Pilot Point is a very nice place to stop. 2 minutes off the sound, easy in and out. Reasonable fuel prices and a very tasty restaurant a stones throw from your boat. The pool is a bit of a walk but not that big a deal.

PLUS, remember to ask for your Brewers card when you stop at Capri in Port Washington on your way out. Gives you 25% off transient fee's and 5 cents a gallon off fuel on future Brewers stays for example, Brewers pilot Point!

John, you forget the unbelievably cheap breakfasts and lunches served from the cart at the top of the transient dock.

Speaking to Dave by phone and he is asking where Pilot Point is located. I have not heard of it either. Thanks...

It is in Branford, just east of Clinton, CT

Ah yes! Very nice indeed.

They also have a van that will take you where ever you need to go. The outlet malls, local West Marine, restaurants and I believe even the local casinos.

Mike,
Pilots Point is in Westbrook CT, right before Clinton CT, if your coming from Block Island.
