I have an 89 Supra Mariah (an inboard ski boat) with a PCM 351. The boat has an fuel filter/water seperator. I am having a problem with gas leaking out of the seperator.
The weird thing is that the gas does not leak out the bottom, it collects on the top of the filter. At first I thought the gas must have been dripping down on to it, now I think the gas is pushing up and out around the bolt on the top, and collecting up there.
I went and got a new PCM filter (just a repackaged FRAM C1110PL) and replaced the filter. In this filter there is are two o-rings, a large one that goes around the outside of the filter, and smaller one that fits in a groove at the top. The smaller one was hard to replace, it seemed larger than the groove--but I finally got it in.
Still, when I checked it again this morning there was gas on the top of the bolt. (see picture, with arrow pointing to the bolt in question).
Any idea what is wrong? Why would gas leak out the top? What should I do?
As I said above-- It took me a long time to get that o-ring in. It was a very tight fight. I had to take out the whole filter. It makes me want to replace the whole filter with a screw on (like an oil-filter) type that would be easier to change. Is that a good idea? Do screw on filters leak as bad? Is there a downside? What is a good screw on type to replace it with?
