Leaky head repair

I have a domestic traveler gravity marine head. It leaks between the holding tank and the mounting flange of the bowl. Getting this apart is a real pain. Any thoughts on caulking the joint? The current leakage is very, very slight.
 
It sounds like you may have a Dometic /Sealand 711-M28. Since the tank is polyethylene I would think getting sufficient adhesion with caulks is going to be tough and would make eventual proper repair a bit messier.

It may be easier than it looks, so if I were you I'd give Dometic a call for best-knowledge helpful hints... other than wearing disposable gloves and a rhinoclothespin. :D
 
I will check with manufacturer but it doesn't look easy. If not silicon is there anything that seals PE?
 
Well......There are some ...adhesives... which claim to bond LDPE & HDPE but I wouldn't think you would care to use adhesives to bond rather than seal in case you need to open it later to fix a valve or some such.

I would replace the appropriate seal. ...After emptying and rinsing/freshening the throne.

I don't think this is a big deal to fix correctly base on the parts list post this should be the part you need "600341549 floor/base seal" you should be able to unbolt from the floor and replace the seal I think this seal is less money then a get tube or marine silicon.
 
Is yours still the original traveler on a 10 gallon holding tank? If so you have what I have and there is just a big hose clamp and 2 plastic sleeves that holds the bowl to the holding tank. There is about an 8" gasket (Sealand 385316140) that goes between the bowl and the flush ball on top of the holding tank. This gasket is what holds the water in the bowl between uses. I normally have to replace every 2 years. You can try tightening the hose clamp. Over the years I have had to replace the metal holding tanks to the newer composite ones but the bowls and the flush ball assemblies are still original. Unless space is tight it is an easy job to undo the hose clamp and replace the gasket
