LED lighting! Potential interference VHF/FM/AIS

Congrats USCG and Thank You, Shipmate for posting it.

I'm picking up similar vibes in the RV Community. As a result I might "install" an LED ceiling light but already decided to go back with incandescent for outside clearance lighting that has to be "bedded." I won't risk the interference. Nor having to change it out cause that little circuit in there crapped out.

I feel like channeling Captain Pascal: Let's turn down the tech and Drive The Boat!

FWIW, I changed my kitchen lighting to all LED (3 fixtures). As they are very bright, I added a dimmer. (They are dimmable LEDs). All the fixtures 'hum' on most settings except full bright.
Next door neighbor, an electrician, says it is very common. The Admiral isn't happy!

Well done CG. Somebody knows how to write a technical article.

I changed almost every light on my boat to LED bulbs and I have not interference with anything. I have changed the bulbs twice my first attempt was a fail because I didn't know to buy none polarity bulbs and I had to install about half the bulbs upside down to get them to work which didn't provide much light. I replaced all the bulbs with the correct bulbs and I have been happy for years and I haven't had to change a bulb since.

Interesting. Automobiles are loaded with LED lights these days. I have not heard about any problems with them in that environment.

as of now most LED's on Auto's are supplied by the maker's who have much better control over things(well maybe)
Where as most all the LED's in the recreational marine world have been installed aftermarket and most DYI

Sorry I did not make my point clear. The point was that there is not an intrinsic incompatibility between LED lights and an RF environment. They can and do work together.

Guess I’m lucky. All the bulbs in my cabin, the cockpit lights, and the lights in my arch are LED and I don’t have any problems.
Same thing at home. All the bulbs on the inside and outside of the house are warm white LED’s and no problems with them either.

But have you all checked your VHF radios with them on?

I put LED bulbs in my garage door opener. He opener would not work with the remote until I replaced the LED with incandescent bulbs.
