I'm about to purchase a complete set of bulbs for my cockpit and bridge on a 2002 480DB. I'd like to use either blue or red bulbs, depending on the feedback from the members on here. My goal is to deter bugs more than the aesthetics of the lighting. Does blue or red light do a better job at keeping bugs away? Does anyone have experience with either color, or any other color?

I found a great selection of festoon and bayonet bulbs at superbrightleds.

Thanks in advance for your insight and feedback.

My experience has been the following. Obviously white LED is the worst and brightest. Blue is better but still the bugs come but less than white. Red is better than blue but still the bugs come. I also have amber which is the best. However the bugs still come somewhat with the amber. It could the LED properties and the bugs. Obviously your experiences could be different depending on the number and brightness of the LED. The ones I used are on the bright side and wish I could dim.

You may want to experiment before committing to a large number of LEDs and see what works for you?

My experience is blue looks the nicest and is the worst for bugs. Red seems to be much better.

Blue and White are bug magnets.

Red is best at keeping them away.

Just think about what color is a bug light then make your decision. My lights are tricolor I do like the look of blue lights but when the bugs are out I change them to red.

THANK YOU!! I didn't even think about what color bug zappers use to attract bugs; I feel dumb :-(

Red it is; or if I can figure out a multi-color installation.

Thanks again!!

Don't feel dumb feel smart for asking, You would have felt dumb if you didn't ask!
Frankly lots of people just don't care they like the looks of the blue and just deal with the bugs. I like having options.
