I replaced my cockpit and transom nav light with LED's this weekend and so far I am very pleased with the results. One thing I perceived was the lack of bugs flying around the lights so I began to wonder if this was due to the fact they were LED. So I googled "are insects attracted to LED light" and some sites claim that LED's do not produce ultraviolet light and are on a different spectrum that insects cant see. Can someone tell me if this is true or has anyone else noticed a significant reduction in insect attraction since switching to LED? Thanks!

I still get bugs and I changed out my clear arch lights with blue LEDS. The only time I notice a difference in the amount of bugs near the lights has to do with which part of the season it is. It seems here in WI that they are drawn to ANY light source when it's dark. Once it gets cooler at night (early and late season), they don't come out as much.
I installed blue led lights where all my exterior white courtesy lights were, definitely attracts less mosquitoes , and less of those little bugs than the white lights. The led lights throw off more light and draw less current. It was a real bitch to modify the current light to accept the new light

I replaced all of my cockpit bulbs with bright white LED's. Never really thought about the bug thing but I can tell you I do not get much in the way of bugs so maybe there is something to it.
As for Mosquito's I believe they're attracted to CO2, not light so that shouldn't matter.

I replaced my incandescent bulbs with bright white LED's, but think that they attract more bugs. The old bulbs seemed "yellowish", which I thought was supposed to be less attractive to bugs. I found the replacement LED's at SuperBriteLEDs dot com. Cheap, helpful on the phone, and fast shipping.
