I just ordered a lewmar profish windlass for my 25 sundancer. I think I need to use a # 4 AWG wire because the total run is about 70 some feet because of the wire runs from batt to breaker and to switch etc.

My question is has anyone wired one up? And how hard is it to connect a # 4 AWG wire to the smaller posts on like the switch or breaker?

On my old Sea Ray I installed the Horizon 500. Had to use 6 gauge & it was a little tough. On your set up with the 4 gauge, I wonder if you could use a short pigtail of 8 gauge?

On my Bert I installed a Horizon 900FF. Due to the length (72') I had to use one gauge wire for the run. Switch was a separate run to the helm with 14/3. After running all that heavy (expensive) wire, the leads coming off the motor were only 8 gauge.

Update us on how it works after a few weeks of use.

Lobsta, Got my 4 Ga wire in the mail today. Its not really that bad. I got hooked up with a mobile marine guy and he gave me the right lugs to use with the switch. Really dosent seem to be that bad using straight 4 awg. Only pain is under dash. Will update later and thanks for your input.
