list to starboard

I have a 1989 sea ray 340 express cruiser that while sitting at the dock lists about 2-3 inches to starboard. I dont see any water sitting in the bilge or anywhere else.

one thing i do notice is that i keep getting water under the stairs. I pump it out and dry it completely but it keeps coming back even when it doesnt rain. It seems to be seeping in through the wall facing the cabin. i checked the the storge under the floor in the cabin but its dry. is there a cavity under the floor in the cabin where water could be sitting? the bottom of the compartment in the floor is flat so im guessing there is some kind of space there because the hull comes to a v under the stairs. im thinking of drilling a hole through that wall to see if it will drain but im a little nervous about doing that.

maybe its just the design of the boat, it has the head, helm, galley, ac unit, holding tank all on that side of the boat. It has a solid fiberglass hull so i dont think it could be a soaked core.
 
It could be a few factors. Freshwater tank, gas tanks could be on listing side.
 
My 85 260 weekender does the same thing unless I fill my water tank. In my case, the head, frige, stove, microwave, sink, and helm are all heavy and all located on the starboard side - as compared to the dinette on the port, which is really a lot of empty space.

Under way however, it lists slightly to port (due to the prop rotation I assume) unlesss I compensate with the trim tabs.
 
My 370DA also has a list to the starboard side. I believe its from the gen set.....so I just compensate when I fuel up. I fill the port tank and go 3/4 full on the starboard.

Its an easy fix...........
 
I have the same issue. I take care of it with the trim tabs underway. Problem solved. Looks like she's leaning on the finger dock in the slip, taking a rest :-)
 
I think you guys are missing the big picture. HIS BOAT IS TAKING ON WATER SOMEWHERE! Fix that, and I bet you'll fix the listing.
 
I'm assuming that the Hudson at that point is mostly fresh water, and not brackish?

If it is brackish, you could taste the water that's leaked under the stairs. Sweet water = water from tank or rain; salt = river water.

That water under the stairs would bother me. You should track down the source.
 
Bob, a little water under the stairs isn't going to make his boat list a couple of inches. Two different issues.
 
the water under the stairs ended up being my water tank leaking.

If i fill the water tank completely full the boat does level out but eventually drains to under the stairs and starts leaning again.
