LIYC Bankrupt

Re: the above comment about clubs being pricy. While to some extent it is true a well run club can compete with other forms of entertainment and if it properly listens to, supports and is inclusive to members it should be like family and difficult to leave. A home away rom home is how people should consider their club.
Sadly many clubs just don't understand that they really sell only one product not easily available elsewhere, camaraderie.
 
I do want to point out that LIYC existed for over 57 years. So something was working well for the survival that long. During my time there, 8+ years and in a position of volunteer management for a few of the years, we were cooking with gas and had a good membership. Not sure what happened after Billy K, Marie, Linda and I left. It was a fun run of years, but at the end, politics and BS took over. However, I will always have fond memories.
 
NOT SUNK YET! They are changing the membership structure and operations. A "marina only" membership will be offered. If your looking for a great location to keep your boat, stop by Sunday the 21st and check the place out.
 
WOW, wouldn't they have done that move before they decided to close.... I'm sure everyone gave deposits already . Talk about poor management. I wish them luck

Maybe...... because they filed for bankruptcy....deposits are lost and now they start fresh. May not be " poor " management. It sounds like a money grab.
 
LIYC is still floating and will be open Memorial weekend for the 2016 season and beyond.
There is an outside contractor running the club now with big plans for its future.
 
When I was a kid Montaulk Yacht Club was in Bankruptcy and continued to run I somehow think it was city or state operated for a while. It bounced back better then it was before.
 
I know the new owners coming in and the plans for the future should be great

That is great... When the time comes, maybe 2 years, I hope they will welcome Linda and I back.
