We're thinking about spending a few days (last week of August) in LBI. Anyone have reccommendations for a Marina and things to do? Looking for a place that is both kid and dog friendly.
 
I've gone many years to Beach Havem Yacht Club, Beach Haven.
Fantasy Island is walking distance as is the beach and many restaurants. There's a grocery store on the corner on the way to the beach.
There's also Morrison's next to BHYC.
Morrison's has a very limited number of floating docks which is nice but I've never had any luck getting one.
 
Nice owners and yes, its close to fantasy island.
Beware, it is exposed and unprotected, we have stayed there a few times and it can be uncomfotable if the weather turns.

Be extremely careful if you come in Little Egg Harbor (Holgate). The North cut around Holgate is shoaled out almost 3 miles. Once inside stay in the markers there is a massive shoal between the North and South cuts leading into the ICW. If you want to come further into Little Egg there is terrible shoaling on the west side of Parker Island. I agree Beach Haven Yacht Club would be the best spot. If you need help from the outside coming through LE Inlet hail me on the radio I could come out and bring you in if the tide is mid or high tide. Because of shoaling I can no longer get through Parker Island unless it's mid tide or high tide without really inching along. If you come in Barnegat check with the locals (the North Jetty is partially submerged at high tide) or the CG NTM's for ICW shoaling and ICW markers out of place or missing. There is a working dredge (The Blendenholm) around Waretown as well. You can also call SeaTow or US Boats and they will help you in or give guidance the CG will not provide any guidance other than to tell you to call a commercial tower. I'm not trying to scare you off just be aware this area really shoaled after all the Spring storms we had.

Billy has escorted more than once and is very knowagable (and generous).
I slip in Waretown and am 20 min to Barnegat, I would also offer an escort from Barnegat to BHYC, just need a couple weeks notice.
 
Thanks so much for the offers. I'm looking at the last week of August and we'll be coming from Toms River. I have convince the capt that a trip is necessary and will let you know.

Shelter Harbor Marina in Beach Haven is also a good option, it is much more protected there. From Toms river, I wouldn't go outside - its a slow ride in spots due to no wakes, but still a nice run
 
Beach Haven Yacht Club has a protective seawall as well, at least I thought it did? The wind might rock you a bit but wakes shouldn't.

It's been a few years since I've been down to BHYC but that video does not look like BHYC. I could be wrong but it doesn't look like it to me.
