We are looking at upgrading the Sea Doo to a more people friendly "dink", found a '89 16 ft outboard Seville with a 100hp Merc for even trade with my jetski. This is a web trade and I don't see an official survey as an affordable option. What should I/could I do during inspection to minimize my exposure to a money pit/complete loss?

I would at the very least have a mobile mechanic meet me at the boat to check as much as possible given the location and time limits you might have.
A surveyor I used in the past also was a mobile mechanic and I'm sure many of them are.

The seville was what sea ray came out with as a lower end boat to compete with bayliner in the 80's. Not well built. I had a friend that had a 19'. Every Seville I have seen you could tell what side people docked on because the side wall was real lose from where people steped all the time.

I've got a 1988 21CC Sea Ray Seville and structurally is built extremely solid. I wouldn't take it out on a rough day with 6+ footers, but all the other days, it runs nicely in a good chop. Great small boat with a V-6 (very economical). It's held up well given its age. The old Seville line is OK in my book.

good for you...i just took my 19' seville out for the 1st time this last weekend. It actually did very good on choppy water too...
maybe its the notches in the prop, but i only got it up to about 42mph at 2800rpm....sound about right? or need new prop?

A little more info please, what engine, I/O or OB, bad prop does not help, rpm sounds a little low if I/O, should be up around 4000 or better.
