We are looking for a new covered slip. We have a 35 foot boat. We currently keep the boat in Bethel Island. Any ideas? We also have a few friends who are looking. They would need anywhere from a 35 to a 50 foot slip. We all enjoy boating on the delta so most likely would not want to move to the Bay.

Thanks all

I made the move from Bethel Island ten years ago and haven't looked back since. We have covered slip on the Delta Loop now (HWY 12 about five miles east of Rio Vista). There are two basic marina regions on the loop: those on the Mokelumne River and those on the San Joaquin River. There are plenty of covered slips of that size on the Loop and a wide variety of marinas from which to choose. We keep the boat on the SJ.

SJ has a bit more current, Moke has a bit more cost. Lots to do on the Loop and close to everything in the delta. I'm on the Moke and can cruise N, S, E or W and find something new.

For me, bridge clearance is an issue. This might rule out 50% of the choices if you need more than 15 ft.

The slips on the SJ also have to contend with the wind in the summer. If you have a flybridge it can be a little tricky getting back into your slip. We moved recently from that area to a marina on the Moke and aside from the underwater growth, are happy.

I'll agree with comments above. As opposed to Delta Loop marinas on the Mokelumne River, increased wind and tide are added factors for the SJ marinas. Plus, you've got stripers and otters on the SJ.

3birds, Where are you roosting?

Korth's Pirate's Lair didn't have the bridge clearance for us. We tried to get into Willow Berm, but needed a 50 foot slip to get the 16 ft height we required and that cost too much. Passed on that and are loving it at Riverboat.

I also needed 16' clearance. Like you, nothing at Korth's and Willowberm was a little steep. We ended up at Perry's. They have done a lot of work on the marina but my only issue is the growth entering and exiting. I never considered Riverview. I have a 34 Tolly tricabin. What are you paying at Riverview?

I love the new look at Perry's. It's great to see an old delta standard like Perry's receive new life from its new owners. I tried boating in there a few months back with the admiral, but, not knowing the best approach, we chickened out as it got too shallow for my liking.

Riverboat charges me just north of $400 for a 40 ft covered slip. There's a great community of people there, I love the protected slips, the serene natural setting and the restaurant/bar is quite the delta destination.

We are just south of 400 dollars. We've only briefly met a couple dockmates but as usual, Delta folks are pretty friendly. I plan to keep my trailerable boat there during the good months for an additional $40/mo and if I call ahead they will launch it for me at no additional charge.

Welcome to the Delta Loop. I think you are going to like it at Perry's. They have a done a tremendous job fixing up the marina (I believe it was the first marina on the south banks of Andrus Island). Lots of new docks. Glad they kept the old marina name.

We were at Spindrift for a couple years but had to wedge our boat into the slip due to the beam when we had our 37' express. We then moved up to Delta Bay and had a wider slip but there were a few berthers between us and the entry gate that would sit out on the gangway every time we were there and would not get out of the way or had some comment to make as you went by. just got tired of it and moved up to Owl Harbor. We since sold that boat and our now happy at Perry's.

Thanks for the memory jog 3birds, I'm embarrassed to say I was confusing your posts with the the OP from TD. I remember now.

Anywho, I glad you found the right fit at Perry's. Sometimes it takes some moving around to find a marina that's a good fit for the boat and for the boater.

Yeah, we are still at Spindrift on the SJ. The little bit of additional wind and current aren't an issue for me and I just like the place. Traditional wood-framed sheds, great restaurant, bar and store and quick access to the SJ. The Spindrift berthers are as nice a bunch as you will find on the Delta.

There are two things I like about Spindrift that might seem trivial but make a difference for me. I love that big tule berm between the sheds and the river. That's the natural Delta environment right there. The restrooms/showers are located at the middle of each shed. That feature is pretty unusual for Delta marinas and it sure beats a taking longer walk at 7 in the morning or 11 at night, especially during the winter.

We too, were spoiled when we were at Spindrift. We were in the East sheds and directly across from the bathrooms. My wife loved it. The bathrooms at Perrys are above the berths but still just a short walk.
I guess we have hijacked this thread into something the original poster has absolutely no interest in.

Nah, it's good info. No better way to get inside information on marinas than from the boaters who have been there.

I was out there this afternoon and got the Goldenrods plugged in for the cold weather. It was nice out there after the morning rain but that breeze felt cold.

There are lots of available berths at Oxbow Marina. One of the nicest marinas on the delta. The only drawback is having to go up and down Georgiana Slough when heading for the big water.

I like Oxbow also. That's what kept us from wanting to berth there. Disco Bay is like that also. Takes a while to get to the main channels.

Chris at Simpson Yachtv Sales has put it together. It has available slips in the Delta as well as starting to get some from the bay.

Nice idea, but so far they don't have more than a handful of Delta marinas listed. Looks like the marinas need to pay to get listed.
