Can anybody recommend a nice hotel in the upper or middle keys where one can access by boat?
I am planning to surprise the Admiral for a weekend getaway. Something not too pricey.

Thanks

nice, not too pricey, fl Keys ? you're kidding right... $100+ for an old motel with a window air con... that's the keys.

there are a few large hotels in Key Largo, with docks... i stayed at this one a while back...

Thanks Pascal but...I guess you are right. I called a few and I think I would have to sell my boat for a week in the Keys.
Orlando suddenly looks more attractive!

Harry, Do you have shore power?
Go to a fancy place and stay on the boat.

Tony, I think it's a good idea. At least for this time of the year when we pay holidays bills.
I have shore power. We love to stay at marinas with amenities and spend a weekend.
In fact, I don't remember ever staying at any hotel in the Keys. We usually stay in the boat. And before we had the boat camping at Long Key was one of our favorite activities.
Although I enjoy the boat a lot, I kind of miss camping. My 7-year-old just loves camping. He is a cub scout. I guess combining the 2 would be great. I may try Peanut Island or a marina close by. We have talked about spending a weekend there many times. Maybe it's not too crowded at this time of the year.

Check out the ragged edge. We stayed there last year and it was fairly nice, had a small marina for trailer-able boats. The rooms are clean, but very basic, and there's a pool. It's the keys though - so we only went to the room to sleep...

at this time of the year, even if you don't have AC, if you hav shore and can run a god fan, it's cool enough to sleep on the boat... although marinas are not cheap.

with kids, the BEST marina is plantation yacht harbor... pool, beach, parks, trails... www.pyh.com dont' know how much they're charging these days, prop $1.50 a foot or so...

Blackfin Resort in Marathon is a neat little mom and pop motel with a nice little marina

Harry, have you tought about camping? There are some really nice campgrounds down there.

Max,
I love camping. Used to do it a lot at Longkey state park. However, at this time I was looking for a place with a decent marina where I can go by boat and I guess sleep on the boat because I found out the hotel rates are very high at this time in the keys. Since I have a 7-year-old, a pool makes all the difference. If I can use the amenities of the hotel like the pool and still be able to sleep on the boat, then it's perfect for me.
Islamorada is way too far for me for a 2-day weekend. It's the only place I know. I have been there a couple of times and slept on the boat. I wondered if there were any other place like this in the upper keys. I will check the one Pascal mentioned.
Thanks

at 20kts, PYH is just an hour from Jewfish creek bridge... or 3 hours from miami. it's not bad and the pool and park is great when you have kids.

A second here for the PYH. We went there for the first time a few years ago on Pascal's recommendation and loved it. Easy to get there, nicely protected, nice park/pool and nice people staying there, to boot.
