Where are you Dan? I was taking a look at making a trip down this month but from what i can see the month of December looks like a steely eyed bitch.

But, since you're there I thought I'd seek a good first hand observation. so, how is it there?

Bob sorry I missed this! Her Lurkness may have tripped the active thread list out from under me. Anyway, we are now in Hope Town and we are enjoying it. The Hope Town Marina is coming along and actually has some power on the dock we are on. It's a good thing we got in when we did with a reservation. Otherwise there is Hideaways. There are mooring balls here also, and Hope Town is a great hang for a while. Some time in the first week of Feb we'll move down to Sea Spray where we will also stay for a while. A little more quiet there.
We are going to get hammered tonite and tomorrow if I am not mistaken. 35 mph+. Rumor has it Chris Parker has said we are in for a stretch of better weather following this front. Keep 'er fueled up! Some folks are going to make the run later in the week.
We have the water maker running well now, and all we need is some parts for the alternator and we are thinking of holding out for a run this year.
 
Dan: Are you staying in one spot foro all that time or will you leave the boat to return state side?
What does one do for extended periods in a small town in the Abacos?

Many folks seem to need more activities than we do. We will be over here all Winter and then some. What does a person do all Winter in a small town in the USA? Snowed in I might add. We enjoy walks and when the weather is good we go out for conch. This year I might actually get good at lobster. We'll see. This is an interesting and diverse community of boaters.

And when we get bored there is always the Wheel of Fortune. [:-crazy]
 
Let's see, staying in one place for long periods of time in the Abacos? Doesn't sound all that bad to me. :D

I'm with Dan, I don't need to move around a lot either. Use the dink to explore/fish/SCUBA Dive/Snorkle and local pubs for the evenings repast. No so shabby. :)

For reef work you will want it light or from the West so the swells stay out of your snorkel. Most of the diving and snorkeling is going to be on the East shores and a long dink ride. Certainly hard bottom territory. If your dink can do 15 knots, you might get by. It depends on the wind and water (like always).
There are good shops to take you out if your dink is not going to cut it. Dive Guana on Guana Cay and others out of Marsh and Elbow.
 
My last two trips I took my portable SCUBA compressor, tanks and all. While it was nice to be able to refill and keep diving on my own I don't think I'll do it again. LOTS of weight to carry.

If I want to go diving I can spend a night or two in a nice marina and let the pros take me diving. Plus, it's much safer that way.

Hope you guys are tied down all nice and snug. It's really windy and cold here so I imagine you've got a good dose of it there as well.

PS: I got hammered last night as well. But it had nothing to do with the wind. :)

And yes, it is very windy here and no, it wasn't dinner. :D

Ok John have a safe trip. We're in Sea Spray soon after New Years. BTW saw the dink at Jack's in Hope Town nice ride! Said hi to the Captain. I guess you were out of town.
 
Dan, did it get cold? Palm Beach was down to freezing. got a new dink. 32 regulator Bubmeister. trying out atlantis, then harbor island and will look for you 3d week or so. where is sea spray?
 
It got cold enough with the temps in the upper 50's! Sea Spray is on Elbow Cay in White Sound.
