I presently have 18YO Northstar & Furuno systems which works but are slow to refresh and im concerned that they may crap out on me when really needed

I'm favoring Garmin products for a full Nav/Radar/Sonar upgrade to both Helms
I'm most likely going for ether a 7600(XSV) or 8600(XSV) series

Looking for feedback on the Fantom, HD & HD2 Radar units

If you want feedback on a RADAR, just crank the gain up!

Seriously, though, I'm not familiar with the Garmin units, but I've heard great things. The new Furuno TZ Touch units are incredible - I played with those a bit.

Cannot speak to Garmin radar units directly, but as an owner of a a complete Garmin marine package in my boat and in my airplane I can say their stuff and their technology is first rate. The downside is it is often not backward compatible or upgradable. For instance in 2003 they came out with a first rate flight deck system but it was before WAAS. When WAAS came out around 2007 you could upgrade the old boxes to WAAS at an eye watering price that made it cheaper just to buy a whole new system. Then they stopped making the boxes altogether so now if you want to upgrade you got to spend 6 figures. In like fashion I spent good money on a cellular based weather receiver for my marine chart plotter that was linked NEMA 2000. Rather than offer an upgrade to 4G for the existing unit or offer a drop in replacement, they just killed the product by no longer offering the subscription that was required to make it operational. It just seems to me they are abusive to the point of no reason to their customers.

Just make sure you get one of the Doppler units
