We will be heading over to the Molly Pitcher Saturday(8/4) till Monday(8/6)and was thinking of extending our NJ stay into Tuesday or Weednesday before returnig to LI. Someone on the board wrote good things a while back on the new town marina in Belmar and posted a link to a video on the web for it. I wonder if it would be fun for the kids(3.5yrs and 1yr). My other thought was to head further to Manesquan and hit the boardwalk. Any reccomendations for a marina with close proximity to aumesment area? I am not looking to head as far as LBI on this trip.

Danno, I have also heard great things about Belmar; the trip from the Molly Pitcher is a pretty decent ride; it is going to take you about 1.5 hours to get from the MP to the tip of sandy hook. We cruise at about 23 knots and the trip down to the Shark River Inlet takes about another hour.

Our home marina is on the Navesink river in Rumson. Please do your home work about the Navesink channel between the Shrewsbury River split and the Oceanic bridge. At low tide there are a few spots in the channel that have just shy of 3 feet of water in them (we draw three feet and there is one area of shoaling that requires us to do a neutral drift while barely grazing bottom; if you draw more then three feet; I would strongly think about making sure that you leave and arrive with higher tide.

On the up side the Molly Pitcher is really nice; Redbank, Fairhaven and Rumson are great town's Zaggats number one rated fine dining rest. for NJ is less then a 10 min cab ride away.

IF you have any questions let me know.

There is not much in marinas near the boardwalk. The closest is probably Clarks Landing or Garden State Marine. Still about a mile or so walk to the beach.

Belmar doesn't not have anything for the kids except for the beach. Go restaurants in Belmar and a beautiful place but not kid oriented.

Thanks to all, for the information. We have made the trip to the Molly Pitcher once before and threw mud in a few spots from what I remember in that area between the split and the bridge, thanks for the reminder. I only draw 30" but I will coordinate my arrival with the tide.

Looks like we will spend at least 1 night at Clarks Landing, they have a slips available. Garden State has nothing open, too bad it seemed closer on map to the boardwalk than Clarks. I am hoping to use taxis.

The Belmar website has a video on their marina and town, they make is looks so nice I am determined to chek it out. Maybe not this trip with the kids but a quick overnight with the wife before the summer is over. The run from where I am is only about 40 mins once I am out the East Rockaway inlet and Sandy hook is roughly the same.

The Nic-Nac will be monitoring ch16 Saturday and Monday on. If you are out gives us a shout.

The taxis are fine. We have done for many years. Briggs is the name I think.

Clarks landing has a decent restaurant and outdoor tikibar. They also have nice bathrooms/showers if I remember correctly. There is a new marina next to Garden State, "KingsBridge" or something similar. I dont know what they have.

Another nice marina I forgot to mention is Crystal Point. They usually have no transient slips but you can get lucky once in a while. There they have a pool, air condition bathrooms, floating docks. They even have a hotel there. Its far away from everything though.
