I posted this in the NJ and Cheasapeake forums for boath areas input.

Looking for some input on this route.

I am hopefully closing on a 33' Cruisers and would like to bring it from Northeast, MD to Stony Point, NY by water. Looking at Googlearth, it is about 300 miles to take the route below. I'm in the process of getting updated charts and I will have GPS as well, but looking for more local knowledge along the route. If you have any input or points of interest it would be great to hear about them. I have just under a 12' beam and with the inboards, draft is 3'.

1) Head south and loop around the tip of Elk Neck park.
2) Head up and into the C & D Canal across to the Delaware bay
3) Head SE in the bay and loop around Cape May, NJ
4) Head north along the NJ coastline staying within a mile of the coast
5) Head straight up into the Hudson and into the marina
Also any recommended marina's to crash in north of Cape May? Maybe something close to a good restaurant and bar.

Thanks,
MJK

Cape May canal might be better than going around.

Atlantic City is where I would stop. Easy inlet and Trump is a good (but pricey) place.

If you want to save a few bucks; you could stay across from Trump Marina at Gardner’s Basin.
When you get close to inlet call Trish, who is dock master at the Aquarium. She can give you
details & inform you re availability of a slip. Her number is 609-348-2880; was Ext. 12. A couple years ago; price was $2/ft. Wouldn’t hurt to call now for info re details.

I seconded going thru the canal. If I were doing this trip I would Spend the night in Cape May, then head up the coast from there. Unless you are in a big hurry, it would be a more enjoyable trip, and there are a couple of nice marinas in CM. Also a nice little town to hang out in.

Let me know if you want more info on CM.

North of Atlantic City is Manasquan Inlet. Plenty of marinas and restaurants.

FYI, Trump is $4/foot (I stayed there last night). You also get a $20 gambling voucher (but you need to match the $20 in order to use it)

I did almost the exact same trip several times and it is an easy run, provided decent weather. AS others said, use the Cape May canal. Also, if the weather goes south, you can go on the inside. Barnegat Inlet is a little scary if you don't know it, but follow the buoys and you will be OK.

Long run up the coast from Cape May to NY Harbor (Hudson River). You may want to consider Belmar Municipal Marina for a stop over - about 100 miles north of Cape May, last inlet before making the turn at Sandy Hook. Nice cement floating docks, decent rest rooms & showers, good restaurants within walking distance to docks.

good luck,

I was thinking 2 days for the trip if weather cooperates. I think Belmar is a bit far for the first leg.

Thanks though.

You can jump inside at Little Egg Inlet which is close to the half way point for you. You can grab a slip at Morrisons or Beach Haven Yacht Club. Both have fuel and are within walking distance of restuarants. BHYC generally has the cheapest fuel around.....last weekend diesel $2.35 and 89octane gas $2.74....but those prices should be coming down. You can head north from there along the ICW (well marked and plenty of water) and then back out the Barnegat Inlet.
