Looking for summer dockage 2015

Mike Winter is a really nice guy. Dave a few years back Surfside/Marine Max was like 175 a foot, that did not include storage for the winter, then add to that their costs to have things fixed on your boat. I think, their pricing is a bit less now, and would love to know what they charge now. I have heard though it is much better than pre Sandy.
Hey, I have nothing bad to say about Marine Max, but it is an expensive place to dock a boat. Expensive when compared to the AYC. Not just the per foot cost to dock, Not that the AYC includes winter storage (big number difference just there). But more importantly IMHO, the fact you can't shop prices with repairs or maintenance on your boat, you have to use their yard.

By the way, the Marine Max model is the common model here in our neck of the woods, so it is not like they are crooks, point is, the AYC is unique and therefore more geared to the working man, or someone whom wants the best value in a Marina.

The AYC also has more amenities than Surfside/Marine Max and much better docking and views.

On the Pro side to Marine Max/ Surfside
Very professional marina, and have the most awesome parties!, There people are also great and very helpful.From what I have seen and being it is a way smaller Marina than the AYC, it looks way better than the AYC. But with that said, we are now very close to that look :)
 
Dave, if you have a slip for Kevin, I do not want to step on your toes. My marina is a big place and will be fine with or without me marketing it's attraction. I asked the dock master here and he said he would do something for Kevin. Not sure what that means, but it is worth a conversation and look at the marina if Kevin is not satisfied with AYC or there are no big beam slips available.

I know it is more expensive that the AYC, having rented at the AYC at D dock for quite a few years - Can't beat the view!

It is $135 per foot plus electric here, but we are okay with the cost being higher for what we get. We have made friends with quite a few boats on our dock (A Dock) and we have a blast at the marina and out on the water every weekend. We do our own A dock barbecues, boat tie ups and destination cruises all summer. Most importantly for a guy addicted to boating for the last 20 years, my wife loves it here and so do I. For my wife to say love, let alone like in the same sentence with boating is a friggin miracle. It has taken me many years, but the adage "happy wife, happy life" is 100% true!

The marina puts together quite a few boat cruises (Montauk, BI, NYC, etc.), marina BBQ, kids events and they have a fishing club that does tournaments. The view from the pool and the restaurant deck, is one of the best views on the GSB!

Come on April 1!!!!!

Walter must have been typing at the same time I was. Everything Walter says is spot on. You can not bring a mechanic into the marina, you must use their service or take your boat elsewhere. I do a lot of the work on my boat myself, so not an issue for me.

One thing I left out - Just like the AYC, we have a parking spot, BBQ and Table right behind our boat.

As Walter said, Mike Winter is a great guy. Short story about Mike: I have made my family nutz with pumping the head out shortly after the 1/2 full light goes on. Last year I was in London most of July and August. Sure enough I was gone, the light came on, my wife went into panic mode (my fault). Mike jumped on my boat, started it, untied it and took the boat for a pump out. For me, this type of service makes MarineMax the perfect marina for my family.

Walter, this one's for you: Unfortunately, now my wife compares my captains skill to Mike Winter. She says he pulled the boat out of the slip in 1/2 the time it takes me. I asked her, isn't that a bad thing? Sorry, could not help myself.
 
I don't have a gauranteed slip for Kevin.
I was working on something but it looks like it won't pan out.
So go for it.

The 135 is for summer and winter and Electric is another 50 bucks right ? Im in merrick and were 160 year round and includes nada. Only Bonus is its close to WAVES AND WHEELS for the best DETAILING IN TOWN !

so SS3 isnt a bad deal at all if u can put with the politics. Anchorage though is a much much better deal for the price. but no waves and wheels : (

W&W - LOL!! By the way, not sure if it is true, but I thought we started using W&W here last season.

The $135 is summer only. I don't khow much winter is. Electric is an add'l $400 for 50amp.

Another plus - AMC is here all the time and they are my canvas equivalent to your Waves & Wheels.

I agree, can't beat AYC for what you get for the price.
 
AMC is in AYC too. Tony is installing all new canvas and plastic for me this spring.
So let's compare final numbers.

For a 42' boat:

SS3 = 42 x 135 = $5670 + $400 = $6070 for summer, add say another $800 for winter? Then add on their crazy shrinkwrap charge, etc.

AYC = 42', can probably get a slip for $4800 + $200 for electric for the summer and winter and $12/foot wrap, no extras.

BWYC = 42 X 160 = $6720 but you get W&W, ripped on wrap, nothing else. But your close to Rob, which is a plus! :)

Looks like AYC is best deal in town, unless you want W&W and Rob!!!
 
Wow, I never factored Rob into my marina decision. Big miss on my part. I am moving boat to BWYC immediately.

Hey, as long as she was not comparing some other "skills" your ok! LOL

There is no doubt the AYC is a better value when comparing it to other Marinas. But with that said, Marine Max is not the crazy priced place it use to be.

As far as "politics" IMHO, that is the nature of the beast in all these places and think maybe worse at the AYC.
 
AYC politics have gotten alot better.
Probably at a all time high right now.
Place looks great.
We have camera, wifi, new pool, new tennis courts, security gate, electric passes, etc.

I have been to SS3 and I am not impressed.
 
Before I got the property where I dock my boat, I looked at SS3, and at getting a spot in AYC.
For me, AYC won hands down. Much better value, being able to do most anything to your boat, and having the freedom to bring different people in to work on your boat, if you had to, was a big plus. My kids were really young at the time, and the pool was a big draw.
Had I not found the property I bought, I would have probably looked to buy something at AYC.
Then again, I do a lot of the work on my boat myself. If you don't have the time, inclination, skills, etc., to work on your boat, and don't want to be bothered, or have no desire to invest in a slip, then SS3 may be the way to go.
 
Speaking of politics, the last place you would want to go is the LIYC. Beautiful place, great views, lots of things to do, but too many petty, ungrateful a-holes to be able to enjoy yourself.

Waves and wheels is in fact trying to get work at SS3. Again politics.

Jeff I may have to email u. Something is off in ur prices. or maybe they have a old customer prices and new which i doubt ... Are u a year round customer ?

Wouldn't you have a haul out fee at any marina?
Not sure that needs to be included.
We are just talking dockage.
If we start comparing mechanic fees, wrap fees, haul out fees, winterization fees, bottom paint fees, then again, AYC will beat as you can do most except the haul out yourself where most other marina's don't allow you to bring in other mechanics or do some work yourself especially bottom paint or shrinkwrap.

Saw the Shrink wrap fee above, Just saying about haul out fee. Still a good deal if you winterize your own boats.
