We have a 120 hp lehman diesel that lost all coolant out of the closed-system cooling tank (at the top of the engine) over the winter. We topped off the coolant, ran the engine and it ran great with no problems (this is on shore using a bucket of water for the raw-water intake). Today, as I was inspecting the bottom of the boat, I saw coolant dripping out of the raw-water intake!

Upon checking the tank at the top of the engine, I was not suprised to find it was EMPTY again. Any suggestions as to how the coolant is making it's way through the raw-water intake thru-hull fitting? It seems the system must be draining itself past the raw water impeller and out the thru-hull fitting.

Any idea why/how? Or what the problem might be?

Thanks --
