I was doing some "armchair" boating last night and checked the Lost Isle web site. They have a message posted on the main page that says, "A decision on opening for 2013 will be announced by early April".

I haven't heard any rumors, or even facts, being said at the yacht club (or anywhere else for that matter) about the place in quite some time.

It's been closed since what, 2009?

Seems like interest in the place has pretty much dwindled down to nothing these days...

So, has anyone here heard anything about the status of the place?

Nada......no telling what is wondering around that place these days. Maybe a couple over aged, wet t-shirt winners from days gone by.

There website now says closed for 2013 and planning to open in 2014.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I sent them an email asking about the estimated opening when I posted this thread, but I never heard back from them.

Now we all know...

And the announcement sure sounds a lot like a politicians response to a question, doesn't it???

There are a million Lost Isles stories that we old timers can relate....most cannot be told on this forum. What a time we had in the old days. I will remember the Isle many times and hoist a toast to times gone by before politics and county regs and red tape took over. The ghost of Hal still haunts the place

When we bought our first boat, the guy at the chandlery was going over a map of the delta making sure we knew the hot spots. He pointed out Lost Isle and told a few stories about the place. We looked at where he was pointing on the map and made up our minds to go about 180 degrees away from that madness. I guess we're too old for that stuff!

It degraded over time. At one point was a fun place where everyone was there just to have a good time. In the years leading up to closing there were a number of folks that seemed like they were there looking for trouble. Not sure it can ever be what it was in its prime again. Too bad.

I think the website has said "closed this year, open next year" for about the last 4 years now. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the opening.

At least they have hung onto their website. Moore's Riverboat has been taken over by a Japanese cybersquatter.

KGD,

I agree 100%! And I'd bet that it will never be what it once was.

And for some odd reason, I don't believe that the current ownership wants it to be either. I think that they want the short and fast money of the testosterone and silicone crowd. Memorial thru Labor Day, then sleep the rest of the year.

Sad to say...

My reasoning is that the owner obviously must have deep pockets to have kept the place in his name for this long w/o it producing one thin dime. Upkeep costs must be considerable. Then add the costs of the building permits, inspections, hearing fee's, legal fee's, etc..., not to mention the operating permits and then to top all of that off, the construction costs of the initial demolition, the new docks, structures, heads, etc..., the list goes on and on!

We're talking BIG MONEY!

And there is nothing that I can see on their web site that indicates anything like family oriented entertainment.

Just ask any water sports shop in the area about how much the water skiers/wakeboarders support them in the off-season? Check out any sporting goods store and see what they do with their watersports inventory come Labor Day. They blow it out or pay to store it until the next spring. They know it's a lose-lose proposition with the majority of that crowd.

Now maybe, just maybe, the new owner might be bi-polar in the thought of servicing the T&S crowd during the hot weather and then catering (begging) to the off-season crowd to support them through the winter with a change of business tactics. ???

As we all know, it is very tough for a Delta business to survive thru the winter without stock-piling a bunch of cash when they earned it during the season, to cover costs in hopes of making a little profit or at least staying open (covering costs) during the off-season.

I know that we boat the Delta twelve months out of the year (weather permitting, of course), and I have seen others here comment that they do as well. We are eager for Delta businesses to be open during the off-season and support them when we can.

Maybe the owner has it right. Make it when he can and write-off the rest of the year.

I guess only time will tell...

Very true. Same old song...

Hey, I'd take Japanese food anytime over the slop that Moore's has been dishing out the past few years! LOL :D [:-blindfold]

It really is a crying shame what has become of Moore's Riverboat. I'd bet that John Moore and his daughter Elvera would be turning over in their graves if they could see what has become of their legacy. Ken should be ashamed.

I have heard rumors that "new" management might be taking over for the season with the promise of "big changes", but as with Lost Isle posting "opening next season" year after year, I wouldn't hold my breath.

But we can all hope for the best. Can't do much else...

Any word on if there is a potential buyer for The Point any time soon? For the first time, had my Corvette serviced locally instead of taking it to Abel. Would have a long lunch at The Point while they were working on the car.

I haven't heard anything about the Point restaurant re-opening under new mgmt. Now would be the time to...

I have heard that Moore's has brought in a "fine cuisine chef" from San Francisco. Italian, I believe, to give it a go.

Sadly, they already tried that. And if failed miserably.

The Delta doesn't need a "fine cuisine chef" to run a restaurant. Us River Rats just want a nice, clean place to drop in, eat, drink, and then get back on the water (or spend the night at the docks). That's all, just something simple. Not fancy. Sure, it would be nice to drive there in our car for a nice event such as Mother's Day and such, but that should be considered an additional source of revenue and not the primary source. I'm sure there is a balance of the two that would work.

But the first time that we pull up in our boat wearing shorts and tank-tops and then get asked if we had a reservation by a host with a snooty San Francisco cuisine chef's attitude, we're outta there!

Stopped in the Lighthouse over the weekend. Just had a couple beers. Checked out the menu's. Looks pretty good. Hope they make it.

BAB, I agree!!!! The Delta has many fine yacht clubs with bars and meals on weekends which offer reciprical service to other yacht club members. And by definition, they are on the water.

Decent food, casual-laid-back atmosphere, and consistent hours should be the rule on the Delta.

Read about Moore's Riverboat now trying a new setup with the fancy SF chef in B&D Yachtsman. Seem to remember the same was tried at Vieira's years ago after The Rusty Anchor closed. It failed pretty quick.

ginman - are you into gin?
If so and you are ever up in Healdsburg check out Bravas Resturant. They have some great gin and tonics

Really like Tanqueray! Have tried the more expensive gins (Bombay, Hendricks, etc.), but for some reason, the pine needles (as friends have referred to it) flavor of Tanqueray just clicks. Haven't been to Healdsburg in ages. Will try to remember Bravas. Grazie.

I like Tanqueray with tonic. Enjoy Sapphire for martini. There's a drink with Hendricks that I like. Muddled cucumber, Hendricks, lime juice and splash of cranberry juice. Can add some simple syrup for sweetness if desired.
here's the menu from Bravas - scroll to bottom for the gin and tonic drinks. Haven't heard of any of those gins except Nolets before going there. They say gin and tonic is the favorite cocktail in Spain

It's too early in the day for me to hit the hard stuff, but that stuff sounds great! I'll give it a try! Thanks!

It's been a boating tradition with my boat that a single shot of Crown Royal should be drank while the engine warms up and before you leave the dock is very good luck regardless of the time day. A shot at 7AM appeases the boating Gods and assures a good day. This is sometimes tough to do if you have done too much appeasement the night before but it's always done and to date, has been exceedingly successful.
