A news scroll said that residents are evacuating Havre de Grace, MD now. Port Deposit has already evacuated. All 50 spillways of the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna are now open, trying to relieve the pressure. If that dam goes, Port Deposit and Havre de Grace will be gone. Perryville might be in trouble, too. Get to high ground. We're thinking of all our friends up in that area, and hope all goes well.

--- And peak crest doesn't hit until Saturday morning.

I used to keep my boat at Tidewater in Havre De Grace, driving in from I95, it always looked like the town was below sea (bay) level...I always thought it was an optical illusion. Scary stuff.

I think there are 53 total gates at the dam, 50 are to be open by today sometime. I don't think the dam is in any danger of giving way since they are opening the gates to keep the water at safe levels. During Agnes, the dam was said to have been over topped for a time. One mistake they made then was waiting too long to open enough gates to handle the flow, I think they learned their lesson on that one.
Check this link for some impressive pics of only 37 gates open. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtYwbBF20Xw

I just notice that WBAL states that there are 52 flood gates not 53. As of today, there were 43 gates open, here is another link.
