MacRay Harbor

NOW I know who SLW is...LOL. Factory Cummins. replaced after the first year...but Cummins from the factory

John...the Viking 50 Motor Yacht came from your mairna as well

ram--any action on your 59 marquis?

slw-will give you a shout come 6th or 7th. trying to get up to lakeside to see a boat on teh 8th
you were on the cruiser forum and telling those toads how much you like the 5370 over the 54 DA inside, but youdid say you like the 54da outside better. will have to tell CSR on this mini violation.

the 68 sea ray is on YW--its the one for 1.6
when you go to PIB, do you stay at B-dock?
why do you dock all the ray up in macray?

John,
We've had some interest during the summer, but as you can expect with it's price tag...and being in Ohio...no one has bitten yet. We are readying it for the Cedar Point Show though...and now that the upgrade on the trannys is done, it'll make it there LOL

John,

Nope - we never stay on the public docks, unless we co-ordinate it very well with friends and neighbors so we don't have to raft with strangers. It sounds anti-social, but we've had too many bad experiences rafting there.

We stayed on Crew's Nest the past 2 times. Otherwise Miller's.

We winter in MacRay because I'm telling ya: it's the BEST run marina in the Great Lakes!

slw--only been to PIB 6-7x and all on B dock. Our R&D guru was a regular and had me stay there the first time (bringing the boat from Michigan City, IN) and stayed there ever since. You actually had some bad experineces? The few times we rafted on a Friday night, it was adults gone wild and what a small price to pay to be able to watch that stuff.....yahoo.

wassup with macray? is yours just on blocks up there or heated inside? if inside, how much per square foot? you'd think you would have a bunch of those around your place.

Cnx out tomorrow on the test drive. they got more mx and stuff to do so trip east is delayed. they sent me a bunch of pics, will try to upload but if you email me, i can forward if uwant.

slw doode--wtf over. just had a guy from detroit in and he is telling me all about jobbinooner....holy cow bat man--have you been ? it is this saturday

We've had high heels, cigarettes, dirt and fish flies ground into the boat on the public docks. Power getting unplugged (or just plain going out) neighbors even noisier than our own friends... :)

The spectacle is never far away, so I like the quieter marinas myself.

Bummer about the test drive. I'll shoot you a note.

I didn't realize that Jobbienooner was this wkd. Doesn't look like the greatest weather for it. Bummer. I've been once – tried not to get the boat too close – it makes PIB look like a church outing.

The boat has been at MacRay for at least ½ the year for her whole life. Even the p.o. kept her there, in his 80 foot boathouse well.

We've wintered her on the hard there for many years, but for the past few have been in indoor, in-water heated. City water, dedicated pumpout, free WiFi and premium cable, there's really nothing else like it. A 60' boathouse well is $5,400 for the winter, but some wells can be shared.

you can check out jobbienooner dot com to get an idea.

do you still winterize the engines and systems?
sounds like you use the boat in the winter there as a condo?
see any big ones that do this?
waht is in heated storage at your place run?
at sima think it is 5 /sq ft..?

No winterizing or bubbling. The radiant heat keeps the water from freezing.

Yeah, we've become "winter boaters". Reverse-cycle heat works reliably down to about 35-36 degrees. When it drops below that, we heat electrically. We got lucky this winter - the water stayed warm enough to run the R-C heat all the way through January. It's a great time to get projects done. I spend most of the winter polishing the topsides. On warm days several of us open doors and start the engines and generators. Summerization consists of hitting the garage door opener button and un-tying the lines.

There are some good sized boats there, but there's not a lot of depth up in that corner of the lake (ok, in ANY part of that lake). We had a 64 'Seeker next to us 2 years ago. There's a 61 Hatt and half a dozen 53 Hatts. I guess it depends on how you define big... I've never seen anything over 80' there.

There's only a small indoor storage building at CP. It's run by Battery Park. I have no idea what they charge, but it seems to be pretty full, and their big facility in Sandusky is dirtier than I could tolerate.

sl

what if you put the boat in and not go to it until april 08?

wonder if on a sea ray would humidity control work -- let's say set it for 55?

wwheeeeeeeeewww! That lake can get an attitude when it wants to, eh?

There seeems to be 2 kinds of people storing in the boathouse: the live-aboards/wkd live-aboards/project types, and then there are the people who don't show up until spring.

The staff makes regular checks through each boathouse. We'd see them 3x a day, but there are probably walk-throughs that I just didn't notice.

No need for HU mode: the water is cold enough that it doesn't cause any condensation. There's actually a lot less humidity while in the water than I've noticed outside under shrink wrap.

spent Tuesday nite on the boat, moving way too much. got up 0330 and went straight to Detroit. MacRay was awesome, got a well, i'll be in the new bldg, slip 1 (first one on the left when you enter. now i got to find a boat to fit in it. looked at the 680 at colony and that was a big disappointment, took a bunch of pics, the 7" inches of oil and water in the bilge did me in. then went to CiC, that is a nice place, lunch at mon ami and then looked at the 52 sovran and it was sweet. then CPBS and saw the savanah and pershing. what do you know about 65 Pershings?

Best part of the day was macray. huge marina eh? Anyway, it is my understaning that they "lock" the water doors come november and then keep them closed until spring and no one starts engines during this time? where is your slip? iwas sched to go to 3B-14 and then saw the new one and said that be it.

Way to go! Maybe I should ask Carrie for a referral fee or commission or something... :)

I was pretty confident that you wouldn't be disappointed, but I didn't expect you to sign up right away either. Cool.

MacRay is big, with over 512 slips. That's a lot fewer than CP, but the boathouses and amenities make MacRay more impressive in my opinion.

We've been in what we called SeaRay Blvd 15 & 10. That would be something like A-17 & A-23 if the building is being numbered from your well to the north. Last year we were in SeaBreeze 8, which is 3B-8. We liked that building because of the big windows, and the immediate access from the parking lot. (which are the doors we opened on nice days. the water doors are indeed disbled for most of the winter) It sounds like you'll have the most light of ANY boathouse well from those windows on the south wall of your slip.

I know only as much, if not less about Pershings than you do. I've seen them at boat shows, but I've never been out on one and I don't know anyone who owns one.

I know even less about Savanahs. The one at the CPBS is the first I've ever seen or heard of them. It looks like a nice boat, except for the borderline-cheesy hull-side windows. What did you think of it?

1, Carrie real nice, but I only know you as SLW and she doesn't--she thought you could be MW?
2. looked at the brochure, see SR blvd and i looked at seabreeze 14. where will you be this year?
3. thought savanaah was a cross between a pershing, cruisers 560 and a cranchi. too much med styling for me. downstairs layout for the tv was poor. aft cabin master was side by side bunks, could be queen, but would be too tight. no blinds anywhere in atrium cockpit and downstairs, and sun was too blinding.
4. marine max said he just sold his new 55DA and all happy about that. that 58 SSS he had there looked good, but way overpriced. not a big fan on the sss cockpit though. too much sun in that program.
5. ever look at a sovran?

We don't know the exact well yet, but Carrie said we'll be in the same building as you.

I spent some time on that 58SSS. Crazy boat! It's good-looking, but I'm with you - that cockpit is ridiculous. Unless you want to set up basketball court, why would you EVER want that much open space? The thing must need an acre of canvas. A friend of mine was looking at them in '99, so we took one out for a cruise. It's a NICE riding boat. Incredible actually. She seems to levitate while coming onto plane, and then she rides at a perfect angle. The one at the show had my favorite controls too - DDEC's. Did you happen to mess with them at all? I don't care how many fancy joysticks or mini video-game controllers you throw at me - NO-ONE has been able to duplicate the feel of a set of big solid Detroit Electronic Controls. They're awesome. The boat we rode on had the garage - that makes all the difference in that boat. The garage creates a sunpad, pushes the aft seating up where it belongs and allows entry from either side of the platform. Even if you never put anything in the garage, it'd be worth having. In later garage-less models, SeaRay installed some U-shaped seating to use up some of that space, but it makes the aft seats even more useless than they were on the '98 and 99's.

Sovrans, yes, I've looked at them at boat shows, but I've never been out on one. I'd like to though. I've said that if the German's took boat building seriously, they'd build them like Tiaras. I respect them on all kinds of levels, but something about them makes me feel like I need to be aware of my posture and grammar...

i'll be against the far wall, next to the windows.

the boat is going to sit low to the dock, do they put in ladders --what did you do last year?
