MacRay Harbor

That's an awesome well as far as daylight goes. Those windows are just about due south. The other end of building 1 is DARK. Of course, there's no worry about sun damage over there, but I started to crave daylight before too long.

I have a section of shelf padding, on top of which I lay down a few sections of DryDeck. (padding to grip the deck, DryDeck to preserve the padding and to catch dirt) I put that on the highest part of the foredeck (in front of the base of the windshield) and use it as a step. I'm sure you could find a welcome mat to do the same thing - I just did this without making an extra trip to Walmart. It was no problem last year, but I had an ACL in EACH knee back then too, so I'll be boarding more slowly and lot more carefully this year.

MacRay doesn't put in ladders, but who knows, we never asked them to either.

Tim & Gina had a slick setup last year. They installed a chrome handle on the dock post, and then tied what I think was a doggie-ramp to the fwd rail and extended it to the foredeck. That way they could step much closer to the dock without jumping down to the deck.

There's also "Method B"... See, you just step up at the stern, and even though the dock is 3-4' above you, you set your drink down, palm the dock and do a push-up until your knees reach, at which point you retrieve your drink and go find a neighbor who is hopefully just about to serve snacks and/or drink refills.

Method B was my preferred method until late November last year, when the water level had dropped after sustained winds. This pulled the boat down and away from the dock, so the push-up required to reach dock-level was significantly more difficult. Too difficult, as it turned out... Fortunately, the before-mentioned neighbors heard the splash, and even more fortunately, while I was waiting for bouyancy at the bottom of the lake, I did NOT see the ghost of the man who's bouyancy never arrived in a similar incident almost a decade ago. (his ghost is said to activate the elevator call buttons on cold winter nights)

They took a picture of me, draped in a towel and dripping on the swim platform, but I've warned them that if that pic ever sees the internet, I'll remove their drain plug.

so to confirm, you will be in that building too?
those windows--too much cold getting transferred in?
if that is the southernmost slip, call it 1, which one will you be in?
method b is the preferred not the way to do it.
you gotta have muscles and be coordinated
CRASH
gotta get those pics
read that tick tock too log of the north channel--he did a great job on that.
i might borrow my neighbors steps and put those on the swim platform and then some kind of ramp to get to them.
have you seen that before?

Yup, in fact I'd like to be near your side - I like the light. No, the windows aren't really any colder, and on clear days, the sun will probably add warmth.

lol yeah, Method B is OUT.

The Tick Tock log is a class act. It's even linked directly from the Lakeland Boating site now.

I think you'd be going down a long way to reach the swim platform. If your foredeck is out of reach, then my recommendation will be some variation of Tick Tock's ramp. I found a pic of it:

They're claiming that they've spent so much time on the boat in the past few years that they want a break from it for a winter, so they're going to store out on the hard. It's a depressing thought to think of the boathouse without them, so if you get a chance, do me a favor and see if you have any influence...

Geez SLW...your boat sure looks small next that Hatteras and dock. :-)

Ram, I think that's Tick Tock.. a 33' DA.... so just a little smaller that SNL.

John, another very nice/clean storage facility is now in Sandusky at Craft Marine.. no in water storage, but they offer huge amounts of indoor heated and indoor cold. It was the former GP building on Sandusky Bay. This will be our first winter there, but we've heard a lot of good things from the folks who stored there last winter.

BTW, you'll have a blast with SLW at Mac-Ray... just watch out for SLW taking the occasional swim over the winter. SLW, next time don't take your cell phone in with you... :)

dogd

for info, what is the charge /sqft at Craft? IN Eastlake, the guy wanted $8.00/sqft

Ram--this is SLW's digs for the winter:

You may be right DogDaze...I forgot to coount the portholes...LOL

John, That six eighty sure is nice, but I'd like one without the canvas. Just something about a boat that big with that big aft curtain you have to take off all the time.

Yup - pretty much! (you're talking about the boat under the bow of the SeaRay Freighter, right?)

Hey John, aside from a nasty bilge, what disappointed you about the 680? It sure is e-a-s-y to look at!

Hi John,

Inside cold is $2.50 sq/ft
Inside heated is $6.00 sq/ft

We opted for inside cold... the price includes haulout, bottom wash (and stands if you opt for the heated option)

I was in awe when I saw the building... very big and super clean inside.
I can get you contact info if needed.

GO TRIBE!!!

Ram, the porthole count is the same on the 330DA and the 400DA!

I can tell by the bow rail.... SLW's has the double decker version... or that cable running under the upper rail. I assume that is to keep the small dogs from falling off the deck while under way... (according to Sadie - she knows everything.

bow rail, foredeck railings, bow pulpit, radar dome instead of an array 7 ft of length, 2 and a half feet of beam, 8,000 lbs.... other than that, they're very hard to distinguish. I guess to Carver guys, all SeaRays look alike!

LOL
not ALL, Yours and The Summer Donna are 2 stand outs in my book! Oh, and Shark ain't bad either

Joe, full speed ahead with Mac and anxious to see how that will pan out for a season, and thanks for the info on Craft and maybe 08 season should mac fufu out.

That canvas on the back of the freighter is way out of line. it looks bad and the cockpit was not that sweet at all. plus he laid the sunpad cushions on the bench and that would not be the first thing i would want my buyer to see:

the downstairs and that tv-- does it not look like too much wood, too boring or something not right to you?
IMG_1005.jpg

i have the undercounter refrig and freezer in my boat and would prefer standup. never worked with drawers before
cant get the pic uploaded will do later
helm sweet
upper cockpit lounge nice
look outstanding, but down in the salon, bedrooms, not the best.
2007 on the outside looks, feels like 1999 on the inside.

LOTS of wood in that salon. That TV looks like the wrong one from the amoount of black around it. Slso, looks tight inside for a 68 footer.

don't know about 'that', but there was an oil sheik or someone on your boat this winter.

slw_swim.jpg

have to go now... and turn on the bilge pumps.

SLW, why are you swimming in the middle of winter? With your clothes on?! how's that cell phone? LOL

lol ok Tock, NOW I see why you're hauling out this winter - it's all part of a master plan to prevent an "accidental" sinking!

Ram, I think the battery has gone dead in that cellphone - people in my phone book are no longer reporting getting phone calls from fish.

slw, bailed out of Macray.

The War Dept was not very keen on going 5+ hours one way to enjoy the wintertime activities. Carrie was a real trooper saving me the slip and even sent her the contract. The broker who showed me the Pershing and Savannah at the CPBS told me the new purchaser of the Perhsing wants the slip so told Carrie and now that pershing guy will be there.

so icalled dog daze's craft marine and got a spot there.

anybody come out of the water yet?

also, this will be my first season storing it inside heated. i plan on pumping it out b4 i leave mentor and then topping it off with fuel when i arrive. going to empty the water tanks, and is there anything major to do? think i will put in the absorb-it bags for the moisture. anything else?
