Mandeville

It was a beautiful, but hot, weekend at Mandeville! Holy cow was it hot! I'm pretty surprised at how 'empty' it is one week before the holiday. I mean, there are quite a few boats out there, but not compared to this time last year.

Where is everyone!?

We are supposed to have a fairly small raft out, maybe four boats. You could raft up with us, if you don't mind a lot of drinking, laughing and sometimes dancing until the wee hours.

Manticore came out to Mandeville on Sunday to check out the parking you and Terry were packed in pretty tight along the berm.

I understand that the tules are pretty packed, but we aren't out there yet. Our first boat will be headed out there on Wednesday morning. We intend to anchor in past the cut through the tip about 50 yards off shore. My family will arrive sometime around 1:00pm on Thursday.
 
Neville - yeah, it's pretty tight where we are. Two weeks ago we were the first 2 boats. It'll be interesting to see how this whole area fills in the rest of this place fills in this week.

We took a ride over to 3 River Reach on Saturday. There are a few boats there, but the bugs and the weeds are driving most people over to the main area. That place is a mess.
 
Are the fireworks actually on the 4th this year?

I might bring the houseboat out and anchor somewhere near the periphery, south side of the channel on the 4th.

Yes, the Hilton Fireworks are on Saturday 7/4. They begin about 9:30PM. They can be seen in a large area of Delta surrounding Mandiville Tip. One good viewing area is Mildred, but I don't know how full it gets these days......

Thanks for the offer, but I was informed at work that I have got to go to Salt Lake Monday at 6am and back on Tue night, then Wed morning I have plans to go with my daughters family camping for 5 days.
So I may have to drop one of my outings, and I guess it is going to have to be Mandeville.
Hummmmmmmmmmm I think I read you are going out on Wed. maybe I can get away on Fri morning and then come back on Sat afternoon, and still have plenty of time to get my stuff together for the next week.
Dont be surprised if you see us wondering around out there looking for you to tie up with. Still thinking this one out.

I just hate it when work interferes with playtime!!!! I guess that is why I retired.
 
The backside of the tip ended up working out well for a ~5 p.m. arrival. Not nearly as many boats, good anchoring and a good view of the fireworks. The wind was pretty stout, but fortunately the new Fortress anchor did its job.

What a change from the last time we went out there on the 4th 2(?) years ago when it was 105+. We all had on sweatshirts and were wrapped up in towels by the time the fireworks went off. Fun night.
 
Wow - it really was kind of chilly on the 4th, but I'd still rather have that than the 100+ of the previous weekend. It was actually a very sad holiday for us. We lost our dog on Saturday. I woke up around 2am and she looked like she'd had a stroke. We took her to an emergency vet and they said that she definitely had neurological 'issues' but they couldn't really diagnose exactly what the issue was. She was already suffering from terminal cancer, so maybe it was a blood clot that broke loose from the last surgery. Who knows. They couldn't push fluids because she had developed a really bad heart murmur. We could have taken her to UC Davis for extensive testing, but given her cancer prognosis (3-6 months almost 4 months ago), the heart murmur, the 'stroke' - we decided to say goodbye. We're at peace with our decision but we're really torn up over losing her. Anyway, the fireworks were fine and the parties were fine, but we just weren't interested after that.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I can see how that would put a damper on the holiday.
 
Steve I am so sorry about your dog. We saw you a few times over the holiday. I know how much joy we get from having these puppies in our lives and how much heartbreak we have when it is time for them to leave us. You did the right thing, there are times when we are just being selfish keeping the dogs alive when there quality of life has changed so dramatically.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Our canine buddies become such a part of our family that it is really hard to let them go. Hopefully she is in a better place waiting for you to arrive and scratch behind her ears again.
