Hi. Need a little education. Have twin 360 Chrysler FWC 1977 vintage rebuilt and new manifolds and risers 135 hours. Having trouble understanding exactly what is going on in the Manifolds and risers. I know the raw water enters the front end of the manifold and exits the exaust through the risers/hose/mufflers outlet. I have watched this forum for a while and understand that if the riser does not have a good seal where bolted to the manifold that it can let water back into the engine, presumably to the valves. The exhaust gases must exit the ports and mix with the raw water somehow.....can someone explain the internal workings? Here is the other problem, sorry for the long post. One engine did not get winterized properly and salt water sat in the riser (and presumably the manifold) and I suspect the risers are rusting up (I am stupid for not winterizing it properly) and my supplier of risers has told me to give them a bath in hot vinegar (overnight) and rinse them out. Anyone else tried this? anything I should know? I wondered about muriatic acid....Thanks for any help.
