Marinas for the winter in Charleston NC

Maybe looking to move my boat here for the winter. Any suggestions on Marinas?

Looking for a safe haven for the boat, easy deep water access, internet. Not sure what else I need.

The city dock is good.

Ashley Marina is next door.

Both easy to get to, offer a van to take you where ever, store, downtown, etc..

Charleston is a great little city.
 
Winter - Winter in the Charleston region starts in December and runs through February. The winter season is typically mild, with periods of rain and a slight chance of snow flurries in late December and early January. Daily temperatures average between 47° F (8.3° C) and 52° F (11.1° C). The region generally experiences its first freeze in early December, with the last freeze in late February. Temperatures of 20° F (6.7° C) or less rarely occur.
 
I have stayed at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina a few times and love the place. It's right next to Patriots Point and has excellent facilities.

I've stayed at the Ashley Marina many times. Very good. Since the Ashley River by the marina is not on the Intracoastal, there is a bridge before the marina which is not quite 65 feet high. No problem for even very large power boats. A number of years ago the Ashley Marina converted to condo slips. No problem, just you deal with the management and not the actual owner of the slip. Its floating docks.
 
Walter, if you move to Charleston for the winter, I hope you'll spend at least a night at my Marina in Portsmouth, Va---mile marker# 1 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Portsmouth boating Center. Let me know.
 
The City Marina is quite large and you do not want to be on the MegaDock on the outside. We have had to duck Harleys that are offloaded from the MegaYachts. Yes, that did happen. A pair of freaking Harleys came down the dock and we had to move over for them.

Otherwise, loved the City.
 
A friend of ours who keeps his boat at Montauk Yacht Club went there last winter. He said it wasn't worth it, and that the people were not very friendly.
 
Hi Walter Bristol marina is a great marina stayed there for years quiet and great access.
 
What is the average water temperature in December through February in Charleston, SC?
 
In all honesty, given your boat and it's ability to run, I would opt for St. Augustine.

Walter, I had my boat in St. Augustine for a few weeks a few years ago. Beautiful old town with good restaurants and nice people. I really liked this part of Florida!

Do folks in Norfolk/Portsmouth typically winterize if they are staying for the winter?
 
Most who winter in water, will winterize unless they have heat on board.
 
The thing to keep in mind, is where is the frost line and where is the marina with regard to that line. Some say St. Pete and South is ok. So consider that line.
Then others say that SC and Myrtle Beach is good because the Gulf Stream sweeps in and warms up the shore area. But we know people that left N.C. for the Bahamas.

If you are looking for warmer temperatures going South is a good idea, but you have to be ready to spend time on the water on both sides of the deal. At a leisurely pace of 8 knots or so it took us all of 4 weeks to get to St. Augustine on the inside.
