We have kept our boat at Skipjack Cove for the last four years and are ready for a change. Is there anyone out there who feels like their marina is top notch? We are dissatisfied with the lack of amenities and the condition of the marina, but most of all the poor customer service. I'd be happy to hear other peoples input regarding their marina.

Having visited a lot of marinas on the Bay over the years, I can tell you that you can do a lot worse than SJC. We think that it is one of the better places we visit, but cannot speak to resident service. I was very impressed with Osprey Point on Swan Creek (back side of Rock Hall) last weekend. One of the very best I've seen, but don't know how expensive it is. We are happy being rack-stored at Tome's Landing Marina - they have no fulltime slips there.

Kathie,
Good to see you guys on Saturday! I like Rock Hall as an alternative to the Sassafras. I was at Osprey briefly with C_Spray late on Saturday. Clean, not crowded and floating docks. Not sure about the rest of the amenities. Haven Harbor is nice but seems a bit crowded to me. The best part of Rock Hall is its close to the Bay but you still have a nice version of $1.98 Beach in the Swan Creek anchorages.

A lot of boaters love Great Oak. We're not fans due to the fact that its HUGE and all the traffic in Fairlee is a bit much for us. What did you guys think?

Its just a shame that Herrington Harbor South is such a long drive. By far the Best on the Bay IMO.

Keep us posted on your search.

Hey Chuck, We went to look at Osprey last weekend, and by far it is a beautiful marina. My only issue there, was there were no children. I'm not sure if we were there on a bad day or what. We have 3 boys and if they hate the boat, they will make our lives miserable. We loved Bay Bridge but it is owned and managed by the same people. I got off the phone with the corporation and they basically said, it is what it is. Skipjack is loosing people by the droves with no chance of improving customer service. By the way, we have rafted up with you. Triple Trouble, C dock.

When the Bay Bridge Marina was sold it took a noise dive and has never recovered. It has such great potential but the moron insurance company that owns it (and SJC) doesn't seem to care that their facilities are quickly becoming the poster child's on how not to run a successful marina. It's an awesome location but that's about as far as it goes.

Mears Point Marina on Kent Narrows has great facilities. It is a little expensive but cheaper than Bay Bridge. The slip prices are on their web page. They have a great pool and good restaurants within close walking distance.
There are a lot of nice destinations within a short cruising distance.

We were at Georgetown Yacht Basin and walked by Skipjack and felt like you stepped from a parking lot to your dock. Georgetown Yacht basin had good service but we felt like we were in a time warp going back to the late 60s or 70s. We were at Osprey Point two wweks ago and thought it was well run, very clean and nice amenities. From what I heard from another boater slipped at a Mears facility, if you're at one of the Mears facilities, which Great Oaks on Fairlee is, you get discounts as transients at their other marinas.

We love Haven Harbour. Last Saturday was unusually crowded Mike. There was a lot going on. It's usually a pretty quiet place. Facilities are excellent and I think the service is great. I'm not sure if there are any slips open, but that can change quickly. There are pretty many kids running around, a playground and a couple pools.

Kent Narrows is close to everything and an easy drive if your already on the peninsula. You have several choices, Mears Point, Piney narrows, Lippincott and a new one next to the Hilton Garden is Wells Cove. They all have pools and are walking distance to all of the restaurants. Its worth a ride over there to check them all out.
Mears has the most going on and kid friendly. Piney Narrows is a slip condo facility but rents to others. It is a fairly long walk to restaurants, but a good facility. Lippincott is older not as large but quiet, a 30 second car ride to several restaurants. Wells Cove is part of a new 10 unit condo with about 100 slips, new pool, floating docks, walking distance to several restaurants and bars. All would be good choices. I prefer Mears because of the activities and family environment.
Just my opinion!

Off topic but, I went out with a friend over on Seneca Creek. We ran over to the Gunpowder and back. How in the name of John Waynes horse do you contend with all those crab pots! There had to be thousands of them! They were in "beds" so thick that you could barely weave thru them. I cannot even imagine trying to navigate thru there at night. The channel was only about 100 yds wide and totally flanked by pots. It was dead flat calm today but if there had been any chop those things would have been almost invisable until you were on top of them.

I keep my boat on the gunpowder its the worst the crab pots are everywhere and then the depth at low tide is like 3ft I am moving next summer

Chesapeake Yacht Club is my favorite. Although it is not a marina it is a atomsphere of close association with each member having a say in its operation, not just taking what is offered.

It is located in the West River which is centrally located to al the great towns in the Chesapeake. 2 hours from Baltimore, 45 min to Annapolis, 2 hours t St. Michaels.

Look them up on the web

Not to hijack, but does anyone have any experience with marinas in the Occoquan, Woodbridge, and Neabsco Creek areas. My wife and I are getting back into boating after a long hiatus and have started to look at marinas. Other than choosing a marina here in D.C., this area seems easy to get to from where we live in Arlington. We are looking for something with a friendly atmosphere, and good folks.
