Vic, if you are around...

This weekend the ME was emptying very slowly and slinging water around the bowl. It turned out to be a paper napkin caught in the macerator. I was able to extract it. It seems OK now. But...

Putting aside the napkin being in there, which there's no good reason for (careful interrogation of the two passengers seems to indicate it must have leaped out of the galley itself and flew in there on a stray wind gust, since no one owns up to depositing it,) does the inability to ingest the napkin imply any problem like a clog? Or this is just not what it is designed to handle? I was just somewhat surprised since I've never seen this problem before. Whereas the old Jabsco would constantly do things like this.

It seems to be working OK since the napkin removal but it hasn't been asked to handle anything major. I'm just wondering if I should expect further problems and continue to investigate.

Hmmm, I find it hard to believe that a paper napkin would cause problems for this unit.

Got in there by magic, eh?

If the grinder can't chop it up, yes it'll clog. Generally speaking, paper towels, paper napkins, Handy-Wipes, tampons, pads, condoms, etc., are all no-no's.

But I wouldn't be overly concerned about a recurrence - especially if you tell everyone, "He/she who clogs it, is responsible for unclogging it!"

A little common sense goes a long way. Also, keeping the lid down when the toilet isn't in use will make it less tempting as a trash receptacle.

Thanks Vic. Maybe you can come along on our next trip to admonish the "passengers" and enforce that rule.

I guess I'll just watch it and leave it at that.

I thought he told you, they who clog it clean it out.

Not that it would fix this from happening again, Raritan did provide a warning label to afix near the toilet that spells out what you can put in the crapper. I have also seen some cute placards that might get the message across even better.

I would have your guests walk the plank!! :)

Seriously, I can't tell you how awesome the Marine Elegance is. By FAR the best head out there. I personally have decided that I like it better than thte vacu-flush units...MUCH quieter and the smart flush control is great.

+1 Woodsong, hands down, best head and can't beat the price for it.

CaptainCrunch, can you share the placards or where you got them?

Bernard Engraving makes some cute marine head plaques. you can buy thru Jamestown distributors or find alternate sources google online.
