Have a Marquipt tender lift on my Searay and it is stuck in the upright position. All else except boom works. Pulled the hydronic lines to see if I could loosen pressure but no go. Any suggestions and can anyone recommend a local shop to assist? marquipt has no one in the NY area to assist.
 
Well now you probably have air in the system which makes the problem worst. When you say that all else except boom works, do you mean cable up and down, rotation left and right work but boom up/down doesn't.

If so, when you press boom up or down, do you hear the pump run? Is it a wired or wireless control.

We don't have a marquipt, but a quickl lift. When either of high 6 function button is pressed, it turns the pump on and activates an electric valve for that function. Over the years I ve had both the wired remote and the plug for the remote acting up. I also had one valve fail to engage although the quicklift has a manual back up so you can manually activate the valve.
 
The removal of the line was suggested by Marquipt technician. Odd that it dripped very little fluid but he claims that this is not a fluid issue since it got stuck in the upright position. I need to crawl back there to check fluid anyway. Yes, all else works except up and down and the motor engages. He claims that they fix them by pulling unit out and I quote, "beating it down until it releases". Since they have no local technicians, I'm probably going to have to find someone local who has knowledgle of lifts in general as I'm not pulling this thing and shipping it to Florida. If not, I may have to fly one of their folks up to take a look at it.
 
This is a very odd suggestion, I don't understand why they would suggest that removing the line would release the boom as there are safety valves in the piston to prevent an accident should pressure be lost. Imagine that the hydraulic line fails with a load, you don't want the tender to come crashing down...

Anything is possible but I don't see how the boom could be stuck. The cable I could understand as it is a more complex piston set up inside the boom but not the booms up and down. I should be a fairly simple piston which btw any good hydraulic guy could service.

I'm really leaning more to a control issue. As mentioned on our Quicklift there are electrical valves on the hydraulic block at th base of here davit. Like all such devices they are subject to corrosion, etc.. These valves have a manual rod you can push or pull to manually activate the valve in case of a remote failure. The marquipt is different but has to use a similar set up to send fluid to right lines and hopefully a manual back up.

Before spending $$$ on flying a tech, there has to be a yard in your area with hydraulic experience, it s not rocket science. Start with the bigger yards that handles larger boats as most have hydraulic Davits whereas smaller yards may not
 
Thanks for the advice and agree. Hopefully. I will find a local person. Since it is just a hydraulic boom, I was also thinking a general heavy equipment mechanic who works on dozers etc.
 
Some times, hydraulics require pressure to move. There are valves that will prevent it from settling if there is lack of pressure. These are installed on travel lifts if I am not mistaken.
I think I'd swing the lift over the boat, prop it up, and remove the ram. See if a couple of men can lower the boom carefully. If it moves freely, look for valves etc. that could be airlocked or jammed.
We had a case where a shuttle valve that balanced two rams was jamming. That was because the housing the valve was in flexed to to mounting bolts flexing the housing and causing the piston to freeze. Perhaps in this case air has prevented a valve from operating, and the only way to bleed it could be to invert it? I dunno. But I'd still disconnect the ram and let the boom down and see if I could work the boom and bleed it stand alone.
 
When you say you disconnected the lines, did you disconnect them right at the ram? Or at a valve block?
 
At this point, I'm quite certain that I spoke to the janitor on the first call. Spoke to a guy who had me swap the up and down solenoids and now she goes down and not up Fifty dollars later and I will be back in business!

Marquipt is in Florida, palm beach I thnk... I ll give you a tip... If the person answering the phone barely speaks English, it s the janitor :)
