I am replacing the seacock that supplies my air conditioning unit with a new Groco- from BoatFix, of course. I removed the old backing plate, which was a piece of plywood about 6" by 6". Since I boat in salt water, it was not rotten, but it had softened somewhat from absorbed water over the 15 years it's been in place.
I was thinking of making the new backing plate out of a piece of Starboard, which is the most durable and water resistant material I have on hand. Anyone have a reason why this shouldn't be OK?
