I hope all you Cats in the Bahamas, South Florida, the Carolinas and areas North are keeping a weather eye and executing your storm plans. Keep safe.

And there has been a bit of westward "correction" to the predicted path. I absolutely do not "trust" this storm. It mat fall into the 30% category of storm that proceed outside of the "official predicted path".

Keep you eyes open and "go bag" handy.

This storm is going to kick ass. People in NYS, NJ etc. should all beware. The East Coast is in for a shellacking again.

http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/14L_tracks_latest.png less friendly set of tracks, more to the West

I hate late season storms.... They re always "Unpredictable"

You should already have purchased your fuel, water, food, booze, beer and medical supplies. If it misses you, well you are ahead for the next month or so. If you wait until the herd freaks out and the masses start moving to make groceries, you have waited too late. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Go ahead and secure your boat in that hurricane hole that scouted out in advance. Then you can take care of your family and not have to worry about that pile of glass reinforced plastic.

You do. Realize that 99% of the members here have of these "pile of glass reinforced plastic", do you?

Hurricane holes... Funny... It may be a good concept in the bug infested swamps of louisiana but along the rest of the coast, you have 200 boats per real hole :)

Slipped westward again.

Western-most edge of the current "cone of confusion" basically runs up the center of the FLA peninsula.

At this rate I ( in MS ) may need to take a trip... ( No. Not yet. Eyes open, prepared )

Prudent Mariners make Prudent Plans. A pile of glass reinforced plastic is usally all that is left when an inexperienced Yachtsman meets a real hurricane. Dinner Key is a nice place for a tropical cocktail but not much else. Oh and you forgot to include Red Fish, Specs, Oysters, Shrimp, Crabs, Ducks, Crawfish, Oil and Gas as gifts from the Marsh. Where does your fuel come from?

Hey Pascal Buddy you have the most experience with these ...what does your gut say on Matthew? Water and fuel ready, moving lawn furniture and tender indoors tomorrow. Spider-up the lines late today or tomorrow, make sure the bilges are clean and batteries on the charger.. and CRANK up the four whips and toss a few anchor away from dock-side of Swampy late tomorrow.

Be safe all - he could be an ugly one the way he is wobbling all over the place.

No worries here. We may get some gusty breeze but that it. North of palm beach maybe a little worst but it's all hype

We had scheduled a haul out for the Lazzara today so that one is up the miami River on the hard. Hoping the rain doesn't slow the yard...i m still watching over Charmer while she s up for sale, As the slip is fully exposed to the bay I may moved her on the Tee head at dinner key where the Lazzara is usually docked since it has better protection and is next to my own hatt

My worry for the Exumas, we just got back from a 5 week trip there and they going to take a beating.

Looks like the Exumas, Nassau, the Abacos are going to get wooped big time. I know what a cat 3-4 storm is all about. Had a very slow moving one go right over in 2003. Hurricane force winds for 24 hours. No electricity for 6 weeks. If you get the eyewall there is nothing to joke about.

Current prognostication for Bahamas is "up to 8" to 12" rain plus 8 ft to 15 ft surge"

Nasty. Difficult to deal with, even if properly prepared.

I was hauling in 2 weeks anyway for season.
Moved up my haul.
Insurance will cover it now.
My slip is super tight with low poles.
Prefer to be on the hard.

It could get a bit ugly up that way. SWFL is probably ok. Hopefully for the rest of the season. We are getting ready to go in after a long Summer on the hard.

Morning reports havent changed much. Looks like it will pass east of Florida coast but we should still see lots of bands and gusts. Trying to avoid the dreaded mounting of the metal shutters.....what a PITA.

I'm surprised more Florida homes aren't equipped with persianas.

Because in so fl it s all about image... Better spend money of stucco and fake crap than building strong homes with good shutters.
