Thinking about changing out MCM485 in an old boat in very good condition. Merc 1982 4 cylinder, 185 HP w/ Series I drive. Engine is problematic after running for while, does not want to idle and start etc (inherent problem with this engine even though carb is like new).
Assume I may be able to change out to 4.3L Merc. with new outdrive (believe existing drive is wrong gear ratio). For anyone who may have changed out a Merc 485:
Should the hole through transom work with Merc 4.3L package?
Who would you recommend to buy engine/drive package from?
Any suggestions on what problems I may have?
Where can I get some dimensions on 4.3 v6? Motor mount bolt pattern, width, height. Do I need to just check same engine in another boat?
