Merc 7.5 and 9.8 Carb Recall?

I am running across many, and I mean almost every 7.5 and 9.8 Merc 2 stroke motor with a broken carb. They have all broken the exact same way... the right side dog ear snaps off right at the little track that is molded into the carb... has anyone ever heard of a recall for this? I think this is a defect in the design... Graeme

If you look at the carb from the side that attaches to the motor where the studs in the engine go into the carb and then the nut holds the carb to the motor, I refer to the dog ear as one of the rounded parts with the hole that the stud passes through... one of them has a small groove cut into it as a passage of some kind which makes that side of the piece very weak...
