I have a 1986 Mercruiser 170. The mariners in my area all want $800 to replace the alternator. They also say its a problem on the mercruiser 170 and 470. It heats up and can breakdown again. I've seen a bunch of conversion kits on e-bay etc. Has anyone tried one? Any suggestions.
