So I tried the self-winterizing thing, and think I may have poured the pink stuff where I shouldn't. Open cooling system, EFI. I pulled the thermo housing off, and poured about 2 gallons in. I checked and it comes out the bottom drain plug - so far, so good. My mercruiser has two hoses coming out the thermostat to the bottom of the manifolds, but the distribution housing at the bottom of the engine has another hose that comes to the top, T's off to two more hoses that connect to the top of each manifold. I pulled these hoses and put in some more pink stuff until it started coming back out through the T hose from the distribution housing. Did I screw up by pouring into the hoses going to the top of the manifold? Should I be putting AF anywhere else since I pulled the thermo housing and poured in?

Sounds like you're fine. You don't need to pull the t-stat housing off...just pour AF into the large hose that goes to the recirculation pump and that will fill the block.

I also pour some AF into the input hose from the outdrive and down the hose that goes to each riser. But the bulk of the AF goes into the large hose like Mike says.

But I don't us ethe pink stuff. There is better AF for winterization. Like Prestone Low Tox mixed 50/50 with water.

Yes, it has a loop through the hot water heater. I just drained it, however. Everything I read said if there is any water left in it, and it has room to expand, I should be OK.

There are two things to be concerned with, the actual hot water heater tank and the loop through the hot water heater. For the heater tank, draining is probably enough, although I like to get a little pink AF in the tank.

For the loop through the hot water heater, I wait until the engine is drained, and with the drains still open, I pull one end of the loop, and blow through the hose, I can feel it push a little water back into the engine where it will drain out.
