All normal alignment procedures are pass yet alignment bar has noticeable end wobble ?
Please let me thanks those who kindly take time to respond on this site, I am always impressed at the level on knowledge here and have learned a great deal from sites like this.
I have a 1993 454 Bravo 2. with ongoing alignment situation that's been giving me fits.
Alignment procedure with new gimbal bearing & tolerance ring, passes 2 finger in/out test including jogging motor + retesting every 90 degrees around. Grease pattern 360 degrees on mercruiser alignment bar looks even. Based on everything I have read about alignment & coupler problems, this is aligned with flying colors.
However, even with alignment seemingly OK, the bravo alignment bar shows approx. minimum 1/8" maybe as high as 1/4" elliptical wobble at bars end if I rotate bar 360 degrees by hand while bar is inserted fully in coupler ??
Is this normal ?? Is this just the magnified wobble on 27" length of the Alignment bar Vs. the 9.5" length of the actual yoke drive shaft ?
This concerned me to point where I put the alignment bar on a granite table (with knurled end hanging in air) and dialed the tolerance surfaces to verify bar was not bent. Bar is within a few thousandths on key surfaces + main shaft, so is not bent.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
